VAIL, CO, May 13, 2009 - George Fischer, managing director for Destination Hotels & Resorts, recently named Brett Schoenfield general manager of the Vail Cascade. With more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Schoenfield brings great depth to the position focusing on service, associates and the community.

"Throughout my career I've been attracted to positions in mountain environments whether on Maui or in the mountains of Virginia, I understand and embrace this great type of lifestyle," said Schoenfield, who recently operated The Homestead Resort and Spa in Hot Springs, Va., which operates its own ski facility. "I understand the seasonality and the unique conditions in which we operate in a mountain community, that's why I'm so focused on the employee service profit chain. A huge focus for me will be our associates, as they are the front line to delivering exceptional service to our guests."

Schoenfield joins the Vail Cascade team most recently from The Riviera Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, Calif. where he opened the 406-room luxury property. However, for more than a decade Schoenfield operated the historic Homestead Resort and Spa where he led major property renovations, grew customer satisfaction ratings, drove employee retention programs and oversaw a diverse operation of recreational activities including seven ski trails, golf, spa, tennis, bowling, sport shooting, an ice skating rink and much more.

Prior to working at The Homestead Resort and Spa, Schoenfield worked for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts in a variety of operational positions in Texas, Hawaii, California and Georgia.

"As a snowboarder, I'm excited to be in Vail," added Schoenfield. "I also know what it's like to operate in a tight-knit community and I'm excited to get involved in various business, social and sporting activities throughout the Valley."

Schoenfield is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in hotel administration. He's an avid outdoorsman who's looking forward to experiencing the powder of the Rockies, exploring the area on his mountain bike and trying new winter sports like snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
