Motel 6's First Property Reborn With Modern Look
MAY 26, 2009 - Motel 6, an icon of the American road for forty-seven years, returns to its roots in announcing the opening of the newly-renovated property in Santa Barbara, CA, at an onsite ceremony Tuesday night. Opened in 1962, this property was the chain's first location and featured the namesake price of $6 per night. Now, Motel 6 Santa Barbara has a completely new look with the "Phoenix" design - modern, European-style rooms that represent the future of Motel 6 while staying true to the original promise of a clean, comfortable room at the lowest price of any national chain.
"It's wonderful to come full circle and witness this historic milestone for our company," said Olivier Poirot, CEO for Accor North America, Motel 6 and Studio 6. "Santa Barbara is our birthplace, and it's great to see this property so refreshed and revitalized - ready to take us into the next era of growth with Motel 6."
Motel 6 Santa Barbara Beach offers a perfect location for an affordable getaway, just a few minutes' walk from the beach with proximity to entertainment and attractions like the Santa Barbara Zoo, golf courses, whale watching and many others. It's a great choice for those who want to be close to everything the area has to offer.
In addition to its modern styling, the "Phoenix" design also incorporates a number of green and environmentally friendly features, such as wood-effect laminate flooring made of 80% pre-consumer recycled material, as well as the company's ongoing earth-friendly initiatives like the fluorescent light bulb and battery recycling program, the use of technologically advanced heating and cooling systems, and water conservation measures.
The room also features ambient lighting, a multi-media panel for mp3 players, video game systems and laptop computers, Wi-Fi internet access, a settee/banquette area for two, and a 32-inch flat-screen TV.
Unveiled in March of 2008, the efficient, simple and modern design of the "Phoenix" represents a revolution for economy lodging in both appearance and environmentally-conscious practices. It will change the way travelers look at economy lodging - offering guests a modern feel while maintaining Motel 6's traditional affordability.
Currently, Motel 6 corporate properties in select markets around the country are being renovated with elements of the new prototype. For more information on Motel 6, please visit www.motel6.com.
