Roomlinx Finalist in Global Business Planning Competition
Denver Company to Compete in Wales, U.K.
DENVER, CO, May 27, 2009 - Roomlinx Inc., (OTC: RMLX - News) provider of Internet based Media, Entertainment & Business solutions for hotels, resorts and other properties, has been selected as the U.S. finalist in the government of Wales, U.K.'s Technium Challenge, a global business planning competition for companies looking to expand to the U.K./Europe. Roomlinx provides HD Hollywood movies, high speed internet, HD specialty content, international and U.S. television programming, music, business productivity tools, concierge services, games and more via the in-room flat screen television.
Operated by the government of Wales, U.K. (the Welsh Assembly Government) and Technium, a network of five-star business incubators, the Technium Challenge selects one winner among finalists from multiple countries. The prize for winning the U.S. competition is a fully funded, business class trip to the U.K. to meet key partners that can assist with the company's European growth plans by providing strategic counsel on financing, business planning and technical issues.
Roomlinx is eligible for one year's free office space within a Technium incubator in Wales, which will be awarded to the global winner of the competition.
Roomlinx (www.roomlinx.com) will compete against companies from Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, Korea, South Africa, Canada and France in Wales. This week-long "Learning Journey" will take place the week of June 22, and will include one-on-one sessions with U.K. legal and business experts for detailed briefings on the European markets and guidance on U.K. market entry business planning. The trip will also give companies the chance to create links to new sources of funding. From there, Roomlinx will present its business plan before the Technium judging panel, which will determine one overall winner.
"Roomlinx has developed services that are proven revenue generators for hotels in the United States, Canada and the U.K.," said Geraint Jones, Chief Executive, Americas, International Business Wales. "Technium is a perfect solution for a company looking to enter the U.K. and European markets, learning from other companies in the network and industry specialists at Welsh universities."
Robert Wagener, Roomlinx Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said that the company sees the U.K. and European markets as its next big growth opportunity. "We are a growing company with limited resources, and we saw an opportunity to work with the Technium group of experts and the Welsh development personnel to help us develop and implement our business plan for those markets.
"We are very excited to make contacts and to receive the guidance of the Technium advisers and we hope to come out of the competition with a refined business plan," Wagener said.
The U.K. is attractive market because the Ryder Cup will be held in Wales in 2010 and the Olympics in England in 2012, both creating demand for hotel rooms and the services that Roomlinx provides, Wagener said. "We will be able to ramp up to provide the services hotels want to draw the attention of their guests."
Roomlinx provides its services to 22,000 rooms in the United States, Canada and in London. The company is 10 years old.
Roomlinx was selected by a panel of judges that included business experts Andrew Fisher, Executive Vice President of Wesley Clover, a global investment firm with North American offices in Kanata, Ontario; Lyndon Faulkner, President and CEO of Pelican Products, based in Torrance, Cal., and Geraint Jones.
