Built in 1927, the Chattanooga Bank Building was designed by R.H. Hunt and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building contains the original bank vault as well as other historic fixtures of the past, all of which the developers; CLP Development Company, LLC intend to restore and preserve as part of the hotel's historic appeal. The Chattanooga based architectural firm of Hefferlin & Kronenberg has been named as chief architects for the conversion.
The Crowne Plaza Chattanooga Downtown will include 142 guestrooms, meeting and banquet facilities with 5,000 square feet, business center, exercise facilities, valet parking and a signature upscale branded restaurant that will appeal to guests and locals as well.
The hotel will be the first Platinum LEEDS certified hotel in the state of Tennessee, continuing Chattanooga's dedication to creating a 'green' and environmentally friendly city.
The initial work on the conversion of the Chattanooga Bank Building to the Crowne Plaza Chattanooga Downtown is in full force and an opening date of June 2010 is expected. The Crowne Plaza will be involved in the local community participating in festivals and charitable organizations. The hotel will partner with the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau and downtown hotels to continue attracting travelers and conventions to the city.
