AH&LA Releases New Card Check Educational Video
WASHINGTON, DC, July 23, 2009 - The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) released this week its newest video, "Stand Up," to educate hospitality employees about what card check means in the workplace. Card check is another name for the pending Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) legislation in Congress.
Education is crucial to alerting industry employees to the threat that EFCA poses to their workplace rights. To further that goal, AH&LA has produced and released this 11-minute video for employees on card check, union organizing attempts, and the effect EFCA will have on these campaigns.
"Stand Up" helps answer many questions employees have about union organizing campaigns that can suddenly appear in a hospitality workplace. The video is designed to be shown to a hotel's hourly employees at employee staff meetings, training sessions, or during breaks.
"This video is an important new tool to use to educate a hotel's staff about card check and the threat it poses to the lodging workplace," said Marlene Colucci, AH&LA executive vice president for public policy. "It will open their eyes to the many crafty methods used by today's professional union organizers, and more importantly, arm them with the knowledge about their many rights and how to use them in the workplace to their advantage."
The video can be downloaded for free in a high-resolution Windows Media format or purchased in DVD format via www.ahla.com/cardcheck. It is also available on YouTube at www.youtube.com/ahlaforum, and on AH&LA's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/hotelassociation. A Spanish-language version of the video will be available via AH&LA's card check Webpage in the next two weeks.
