Derek Ellis Appointed Resident Manager/Hotel Director

AUGUST 7, 2009 - The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Ellis as resident manager / hotel director for the resort, which opens January, 2010. Ellis will be responsible for leading the services team through the grand opening of the luxurious resort property.

Ellis has enjoyed a lifelong career with the Marriott organization. Prior to joining the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, Ellis held many different positions in the rooms discipline beginning in 1990 with his initial role as Housekeeping Manager, then Front Desk Manager and subsequently Front Office Manager at the Irvine Marriott while he attended Orange Coast College. After Irvine, Ellis continued to gain valuable management experience as the Front Office Manager at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and in 2000 he was promoted to the Director of Room Operations. His success continued in 2002 when he and his family moved to the Arizona desert, where Ellis opened the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa as the Director of Room Operations. In 2004, he joined the opening team of the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort and Spa in Tucson Arizona as the Resident Manager.
