. September 30, 2009

NEW YORK, NY, September 30, 2009 - The Strand, debuting this October in Manhattan's fashion district, welcomes guests with its grand opening package that includes an iconic print from the hotel's collection of vintage Cond'e Nast photos that adorn the lobby and all 177 guest rooms.

Guests who book The Strand's "Room With a View," grand opening package will receive their choice of a framed 17 x 17'' iconic black and white vintage print from the Cond'e Nast archives, by photographers John Rawlings, Clifford Coffin or Henry Clarke.

The weekend package includes accommodations for two in a superior guestroom, one framed Cond'e Nast print and drinks for two at the hotel's new open-air rooftop lounge. The "Room With a View" package is based on availability and black out dates apply. The package rates do not include taxes. For more information or to book, visit www.thestrandnyc.com or call 212.448.1024.

"We strived to create a hotel ambience that reflected The Strand's neighborhood, New York City's Fashion District," said Don Glassie, president of Newport-based Atlantic Stars Hotels & Cruises. "These iconic photos will remind guests that they are in the fashion capital of the world - a glamorous place to be." Additional images throughout the hotel are from the pages of Vogue and Vanity Fair, featuring eminent photographers such as Clifford Collin, Richard Rutledge, Eduard Steichen, John Rawlings, Toni Frissel and Lusha Nelson, among others.

At the hotel, guests can enjoy a retractable roof-top lounge designed by "Sex and the City" and "The Devil Wears Prada" set decorator, Lydia Marks, which offers guests an urban oasis among the concrete buildings of the garment district. The space features multi-purpose wooden planters that house an array of greenery and serve as seating areas and an up-close view of the Empire State Building. A row of beds dressed with billowy curtains offers visitors a roof-top sanctuary in the midst of Manhattan.

The Cond'e Nast images are one aspect of the hotel's 1930's Hollywood decor, which includes Bogart-style furnishings; a striking tiered amber-hued chandelier that drops through from the upper to lower lobby; dramatic, tapered, mahogany columns and a two-story water wall that skims behind a contemporary glass spiral staircase leading to the ground floor. Shades of green, black and aubergine decor blend beautifully with limestone throughout the lobby and guest rooms.

The Strand's guest rooms offer visitors the utmost comfort after a long day of work or play. Modern amenities include pillow-top beds with Egyptian cotton linens; 100% cotton waffle-weave bathrobes; premium bath amenities designed exclusively for The Strand, by Fragonard; iPod docking stations; large flat-screen televisions and mini bars in each room. All guest rooms offer expansive city views.

The hotel's restaurant, A Fish Called Avalon, replicating the original restaurant located in The Avalon Hotel (another Atlantic Stars property) in Miami's South Beach, will feature indoor and outdoor garden terrace and sidewalk seating with a Floribbean seafood grill menu. Restaurant room service is available and a complimentary European breakfast is served daily for all guests.

The Strand, a 177-room hotel developed by Newport-based Atlantic Stars Hotels & Cruises, offers guests a contemporary hotel experience with a touch of old world glamour. Among the highlights: crisp public spaces adorned with vintage fashion photography from the Cond'e Nast archives; a celebrated restaurant, A Fish Called Avalon, making its New York debut; and an open-air rooftop bar that features a retractable roof and magnificent views of the Empire State Building.
