ECCH Expansion Achieves LEED Silver

The First LEED-silver certified Conference Center Hotel in Atlanta

. March 24, 2010

ATLANTA, GA - March 23, 2010 - Center Hotel (ECCH) announces its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its new addition to the development. The Hotel & Conference Center, which is part of the Emory University campus, brings the total number of LEED certified buildings on the campus to 13.

The five-story building was rated LEED silver for its sustainable components incorporated into the structure's design and construction. Those environmentally-friendly elements include being a sustainable site providing connectivity to alternative transportation, water efficiency, the recycling and reuse of building materials and resources, indoor environmental air quality and innovation in design.

“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment, particularly achieving the first LEED-silver certification for a conference center-hotel facility in metro Atlanta,” said Kathy Johnson, General Manager of ECCH. “Emory Conference Center Hotel is an active member of many green industry organizations and was the first property in Georgia to be certified by Green Seal, Inc. This LEED certification reinforces our commitment to environmentally-friendly operations and design.”

Robert Hascall, Emory's Vice President of Campus Services, said “Emory's pledge to building green remains steadfast. After building the first LEED certified building in the Southeast, Emory's board of trustees knew it made sense both sustainably and financially to continue the trend across campus.”

Emory was also recently recognized by the Atlanta Business Chronicle at its awards ceremony for “Deals of the Decade” when the University won in the 'Design' category for its green building program. Robert Hascall accepted the award on behalf of Emory University.
