JW Marriott Hotel Miami Receives Florida Green Lodging Program Designation
MIAMI, FL - April 21, 2010 - Recognized for its environmental stewardship in the hotel industry, the JW Marriott Hotel Miami today announced that it has earned the Florida Green Lodging Program designation. A voluntary initiative of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the program acknowledges and rewards hotels and resorts with a commitment to conserve and protect the state's natural resources.
The Florida Green Lodging Program provides the hospitality industry with environmental guidelines and technical assistance, which allows hotels to evaluate their operations, set goals and take specific actions to continuously improve environmental performance. To become a designated member of the Florida Green Lodging Program properties must implement a variety of green practices, including water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling.
In keeping with its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance the sustainability of its operations, some of the eco-practices at the JW Marriott Hotel Miami include recycling throughout the hotel, purchasing recycled-content products such as paper towels and notepads, converting light bulbs from incandescent to compact fluorescent in the entire hotel, using “green” air filters, reserving prime parking locations for guests driving hybrid vehicles, and tracking water usage on a daily basis.
“We are excited that our hotel has earned this important designation," said Florencia Rotemberg, general manager for the JW Marriott Hotel Miami. "We consistently strive to implement new ways to expand our environmental efforts and are devoted to growing greener.”
