Beverley Matthews Appointed GM at Rancho Valencia Resort
June 8, 2010 - The owners of the award-winning Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, announced the appointment of Beverley Matthews as General Manager. In her new position, Matthews will oversee all operations for the 49-suite resort, which includes a restaurant and a full-service spa, all situated atop a 43-acre plateau in the rolling hills of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
“We are delighted to welcome Beverley to Rancho Valencia,” said Hal Jacobs, co-owner of Rancho Valencia. “Her experience managing iconic small luxury properties around the world will be an invaluable asset to our resort.”
“Auberge Resorts is thrilled to have found someone with such a proven track record of success managing high-end resorts,” said Mark Harmon, CEO of Auberge Resorts. “We can't imagine finding someone more qualified to run the spectacular Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa.”
Matthews is most renowned in the U.S. for developing and, for 10 years, managing the pre-eminent North American hideaway, Twin Farms, in Barnard, Vermont. Industry accolades prevailed as Twin Farms earned its Mobil Five-Star status in just its second year of operation along with the highest Zagat ratings. Matthews began her career in the field of high-end hospitality with the concept, development and operation of Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Honing her skills further as General Manager of Aman Resorts' Carcosa Seri Negara, Matthews' went on to develop her own boutique property in England's Cotwolds.
Since 2003, Matthews has been utilizing her 25 years of focused hospitality experience to consult on development projects, including Maui's Kapalua Bay Resort and Aman Resorts' Norman's Cay project. Most recently, she oversaw a revitalization project on Necker Island and worked on the development of the historic Ballyfin Demesne in Ireland.
