Colin Gold Named GM the New James in NYC

Hospitality veteran brings extensive luxury experience to first James property in NY.

August 19, 2010 - Brooke Barrett, co-CEO of Denihan Hospitality Group, owners and operators of The James brand, announced the appointment of Colin Gold as General Manager of The James New York, the brand's first expansion outside Chicago. Gold, most recently general manager of The Trump International Beach Resort Miami, will oversee the daily operation of the new luxury boutique property, managing key relationships with owner Brack Capital Real Estate and a high-profile food and beverage operator, to be announced shortly. Denihan Hospitality Group was awarded the management contract for the property earlier this year.

The James New York, located at the crossroads of Grand and Thompson Streets in Soho, features 114 guestrooms and suites submersed in natural light and unobstructed views of Manhattan. Accommodations, featuring environmentally thoughtful details, include spacious corner rooms with wrap-around views, four one-bedroom suites and one 1300 sq. ft. Penthouse Loft located on the 16th floor. In keeping with The James brand, the hotel will showcase works from a mix of local artists, both prominent and up-and-coming. The hotel will also feature a hotly anticipated rooftop bar and lounge, with a private pool and spa cabanas.

Gold brings more than 19 years in the hospitality industry with extensive experience in luxury and lifestyle hotels in New York, California and Miami. Among his achievements while general manager of The Trump International Miami since 2004, Gold lead the sales and marketing team to consistent year-over-year RevPAR index increases and introduced new training and skills development for hotel staff at every level. He helped the hotel achieve its Mobil/Forbes 4-star rating, while maintaining “5-star” guest service scores.

Prior to Trump International, he spent over 10 years with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, including New York area roles as opening executive assistant manager of the Hyatt Regency Jersey City and executive assistant manager for the Stanhope Park Hyatt New York.

A native of Wayne, New Jersey Gold is a graduate of University of Massachusetts, with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant, and Travel Administration. Gold enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, skiing and running. He will relocate to New York with his wife, Laura, and eight-year old daughter.
