JW Marriott Indianapolis Downtown Hires Three Executives

November 09, 2010 - The JW Marriott Indianapolis Downtown has hired Raymond Gilbertson as director of event management, Mie Young Reed as director of human resources and Andy Seal as resident manager.

“As we approach the grand opening on February 4, 2011, we continue to add key personnel to our team,” said Scott Blalock, general manager of the JW MarriottÒ Indianapolis. “With a high level of experience and proven talent, Ray, Mie Young and Andy will be excellent resources for our clients and associates.”

Gilbertson brings over 20 years of banquet and event management experience to the JW MarriottÒ Indianapolis. He began his career in various banquet roles in Arizona and Nevada before joining the Gaylord Texan and most recently, the Rio Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas where he was responsible for more than 200 employees along with a 160,000 square foot convention facility.

“With an evident ability to manage large convention spaces in a fast paced, high volume atmosphere, Ray will be a great asset for Indy's growing convention environment,” said Blalock.

Gilbertson graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BA in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. He resides in Brownsburg, IN with his wife Rebecca and son Zachery.

In addition to Gilbertson, the hotel has added MieYoung Reed as the director of human resources. Reed began her career more than 24 years ago with Westin Hotels in various cities across the United States before landing in Indianapolis in 1996. Under her direction, the Westin Hotel Indianapolis was awarded the Urban League President's Award in 2004 and the Mayor's Workplace Diversity Award in 2005.

Reed most recently worked as the director of human resources for the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. She received the White Lodging Human Resources Manager of the Year Award in 2009, and continues to be a leader in the hospitality community.

She is an avid volunteer, serving as board president for Minorities in Hospitality of Indianapolis. Reed is a graduate of Wilmington College with a BA in Management and International Marketing. She currently lives in Carmel, IN with her husband, Greg, and their two daughters, Hana and Dana.

Andy Seal, a 27-year industry veteran, joins the JW MarriottÒ Indianapolis as resident manager. For the past eight years, Seal has held general manager positions with the Marriott, Embassy Suites, and Doubletree brands. Prior to his role as general manager, Seal was assistant general manager for several Marriott properties, including the Chicago Marriott Northwest, Cincinnati Airport Marriott, and the Cincinnati Marriott North. Seal spent the first 15 years of his career in food and beverage and was director of food and beverage for the Embassy Suites North in Indianapolis.

Seal is originally from Indianapolis where he received his Hotel Management degree from Purdue University's Indianapolis campus as well as becoming a certified hotel administrator. Seal resides in Mooresville, IN with his wife, Renee, and their two children, Emma and Ethan.
