New Chef de Cuisine at The Ocean Room in The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

. February 27, 2012

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - February 24, 2012 - Andrew D. Venable has been named Chef de Cuisine of the Forbes Four Star/AAA Four Diamond Ocean Room in The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. An Ocean Room employee since 2008, Venable worked his way up through the ranks and was instrumental in the restaurant's transition from traditional “fine dining” cuisine into its extremely successful steakhouse concept.

According to Robert Wysong, Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Venable's connection with our “farm to table” concept will serve him well in The Ocean Room's kitchen. “Andrew was a driving force of The Ocean Room's team in developing strong relationships with local farmers and purveyors - a hallmark of The Ocean Room that has helped make it so popular. Additionally, his artistic background and creativity will mean a continuation of imaginative menu selections.”

Venable earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Philadelphia's University of the Arts and has applied that training to his culinary craft, giving his meals an artistic flair. Fresh out of college, he worked in some of Philadelphia's top rated kitchens and, at the young age of 24, his drive and passion was rewarded when he was named Chef de Cuisine at Guru, a Pan Asian Bistro in the bustling South Street area of Philadelphia. His work there gained notice and he was quickly wooed away by a notable regional chef to join an award-winning team in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Working in Chester County, Venable cultivated relationships with local farmers and ranchers. Through these relationships he gained a passion and knowledge for farm fresh and locally sourced products. Venable looks forward to using his creativity towards maintaining the high standards of The Ocean Room.
