STR Reports US Hotel Occupancy Increase for Week Ending May 19, 2012

Occupancy Increases 1.1and %ADR Increases 3.2% to US$106.55

alt text May 29, 2012 - The U.S. hotel industry experienced increases in all three key performance metrics during the week of 13-19 May 2012, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year comparisons for the week, occupancy ended the week with a 1.1-percent increase to 66.0 percent, average daily rate increased 3.2 percent to US$106.55 and revenue per available room jumped 4.3 percent to US$70.33.

Among the Top 25 Markets, St. Louis, Missouri-Illinois, ended the week with the largest occupancy increase, rising 13.8 percent to 74.1 percent, followed by Houston, Texas, with a 12.1-percent increase to 69.9 percent. Denver, Colorado, fell 7.7 percent in occupancy to 75.0 percent reporting the largest decrease in that metric, followed by Chicago, Illinois, with a 7.5-percent decrease to 70.0 percent. San Diego, California, achieved the only double-digit ADR increase, up 11.1 percent to US$130.41.

Four markets reported double-digit RevPAR increases: St. Louis (+16.7 percent to US$66.09); Houston (+15.8 percent to US$68.01); Nashville, Tennessee (+11.9 percent to US$72.28); and Miami-Hialeah, Florida (+11.0 percent to US$118.82).

Denver experienced the largest ADR (-4.3 percent to US$103.45) and RevPAR (-11.7 percent to US$77.56) decreases for the week.
