Renewed Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu Joins Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI)
December 12. 2012 - Turtle Bay Resort, situated on the popular Hawaiian island of Oahu and undergoing $60 million in impressive upgrades under new ownership, has been accepted into Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI). Located on Oahu's famous and fabled North Shore, which was described by National Geographic as “one of the wonders of the world - one of the planet's most awesome places,” the resort is the only destination resort on the North Shore, and is now the fourth Hawaiian ALHI option for planners. ALHI, with its established Global Sales Organization (GSO) sales force throughout North America, now provides authorized and dedicated GSO services and sales support to corporations, associations, independent planners, and incentive specialists for the luxury resort.
Featuring almost five miles of beachfront and one of the most mesmerizing settings in the Hawaiian Islands, Turtle Bay Resort will begin $60 million in upgrades in January 2013. The renovation, which is slated for completion by the end of 2013, will encompass all of the 840-acre resort's 397 standard and premium guest rooms and hallways; the full-service Spa Luana (which will nearly double in size); the fitness center (which will move and will now provide expansive ocean views from all-new fitness equipment); two restaurants; as well as improvements to the main building roof and lobby area. The renovation will be completed in phases to minimize impact on guests and groups. Guest rooms will be renovated one wing at a time, and the affected restaurants will be upgraded at separate times.
These planned renovations follow the recent addition at the resort of the popular Surfer, The Bar in November 2011; and enhancements to the resort's lobby and lobby bar, all of which are in line with the resort's rebranding campaign, launched in 2011.
Turtle Bay Resort, which was the setting for the popular romantic comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” provides spectacular ocean views from the 468 magnificent accommodations, which includes luxurious beach cottages, villas, guest rooms and suites. The resort features 28,000 square feet of function and pre-function space that can accommodate up to 600 guests. Meeting offerings include the 9,000-square-foot Kahuku Ballroom and the 8,960-square-foot Kuilima Ballroom. The resort's beautiful outdoor venues can host up to 2,000 attendees.
Additional offerings at the resort include 36 holes of championship golf (with courses designed by Arnold Palmer and George Fazio), two lushly landscaped pool areas, tennis courts, horseback riding, hiking and mountain bike trails, a surfing school, helicopter rides, Segways, snorkeling, Scuba diving, and outstanding restaurants including 21 Degrees North. The resort is located just minutes from The Polynesian Cultural Center (one of Hawaii's most popular destinations), and is just 45 minutes from Honolulu and Waikiki, and one hour from Honolulu International Airport.
In addition to becoming the newest member in ALHI's worldwide portfolio, Turtle Bay Resort also becomes the newest offering in the “ALHI Beach & Island Collection,” an ALHI specialty segment which consists of 36 Four- and Five-Diamond quality member hotels and resorts which are located in coastal destinations around the world. The resort also becomes a new offering in the “ALHI Golf Collection,” featuring ALHI's 47 Four- and Five-Diamond golf resorts and luxury hotels that cater to the meetings and incentive marketplaces.
Turtle Bay Resort becomes ALHI's fourth member hotel in Hawaii, joining the world-class Halekulani, with 453 luxurious rooms located on five oceanfront acres on picturesque Waikiki Beach; the luxurious new The MODERN Honolulu, featuring 352 chic guest rooms and suites and 40,000 square feet of meeting space, just steps to Waikiki Beach; and the exquisite The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, nestled on 30 oceanfront acres on the Kohala Coast, on the Island of Hawaii, another very popular resort for meetings and incentive travel groups.
“We are very proud to add Turtle Bay Resort to our membership,” said ALHI President & CEO David Gabri. “Hawaii, including our Member resorts, continues to be a very popular destination for groups, perhaps spurred on more so by the President's focus on Hawaii for some of our government's important international meetings, as well as his apparent favorite vacation destination every year. The Turtle Bay Resort offers a unique opportunity for programs, with excellent air access from Honolulu and a wealth of recreational amenities and excellent meeting and function space that will be appealing to any group. Add in the new investments and renovations, including luxurious new accommodations, and Turtle Bay has emerged as a truly beautiful setting in every respect.”
