'New' Nevada Magazine Reflects Lifestyle Changes

. October 14, 2008

MARCH 8, 2007. The redesigned Nevada Magazine, now on newsstands and in the hands of subscribers, reflects changes in Nevadans' lifestyles and the growth of the state's cities and rural areas, Publisher Deb Dudley said today.

"Nevada Magazine celebrates life in Nevada by exploring our many diverse lifestyles, from trendy urban activities to rural outdoor adventures," Dudley said. "We want to showcase Nevada from every possible angle."

Dudley, a horsewoman and outdoor sportswoman who lives at Lake Tahoe, became publisher in November 2006 and oversaw the revamping of the magazine's format and departments. Before joining Nevada Magazine, a division of the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), Dudley founded and operated HD96 Custom Publishing, the state's largest custom publisher, which produces many Reno-Lake Tahoe publications and projects for tourism entities in the Sierra Nevada and Las Vegas. Earlier, as an advertising executive, Dudley worked with ski resort accounts, and she also served as special events director for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Bureau.

In the March-April 2007 issue, readers will find stories about auto-racing brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch, Las Vegas natives who will be competing at NASCAR weekend in Las Vegas this month; Reno's Truckee River Whitewater Park, a green-built house in the Carson Valley, a new hiking trail at Lake Tahoe, a stroll through the state's historic capital, Carson City, and artsy coffeehouses around the state.

The magazine's new departments include two travel sections called City Limits and Wide Open that feature urban and rural destinations. Other categories are Cravings (dining), The Look (fashion and entertaining), Nevada Living (homes and gardens), Notable Nevadan (mover/shaker), Calendar, Shows, and Events. Each issue also will have a feature-length story and a gaming column.

Art director Matt Smith, who lives in Gardnerville, developed a new page design that emphasizes clean lines and white space.

Nevada Magazine was founded in 1936 and celebrated its 71st birthday in January. It has experienced many evolutions from its early days as Nevada Highways and Parks, published by the Nevada Department of Highways, now the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The Nevada Magazine Web site, http://www.nevadamagazine.com/, offers readers a taste of each issue of the magazine, which is published six times a year by NCOT. For information, call Dudley at 775-687-0601 or editor Joyce Hollister, 775-687-0603.
