. April 22, 2014

San Antonio, TX - April 22, 2014 - With the final phase of work recently wrapped up, the multi-million dollar renovation of the historic Sheraton Gunter hotel in downtown San Antonio is now complete. Greenwood Hospitality manages the property and Thomas Conran, principal of Greenwood, made the announcement.

The comprehensive renovation transformed the century old building into a state-of-the art facility that maintains the history while at the same time adding the look, feel and features that can be found in a contemporary hotel.

The new look lobby combines historic lines with bright tones and creative lighting while still highlighting the intricate ceiling details. Each room was completely modernized with new carpeting and soft goods with an emphasis on maintaining the original classically inspired design and upscale attributes of the property. The guestrooms also received signature artwork specific to the heritage of San Antonio. Additionally, the hotel cabling was updated to provide for High Definition video programming.

The existing state-of-the-art meeting facilities now feature modern technologies, with a nod towards the building's historic roots. New signage clearly defines the use of each meeting venue and The Crystal Ballroom features improved lighting and a new color scheme, enhanced by vibrant design savvy applications.

The renovation also placed significant emphasis on the food and beverage component of the property. The new Market on Houston restaurant and marketplace was designed with San Antonio's “food vibe” in mind. The cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and features contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal and local ingredients. The marketplace exudes a sophisticated and comfortable atmosphere that also features prepared entrees and accompaniments, sandwiches, cheeses, cured meats and desserts to go.   The concept also places a pronounced emphasis on craft beer and fine wine as important elements of the overall experience. The bar features over 25 craft and microbrew beers and 50 wines by the glass, taste or quartino, all suitable for pairing with the intriguing small plates, sandwiches and entrees. Guests are also able to shop for wines, gourmet products, wine accessories, books and small kitchen housewares in the festive market atmosphere.

“The Market on Houston provides a venue where guests can sample a wide variety of food and wine in a casual, energetic environment without pretense, states Bill Kohl, fellow principal of Greenwood Hospitality. The ever changing products featured in the market along with the ambitious schedule of wine tasting and cooking events provides an opportunity for guests to return repeatedly for a new experience."

The Sheraton Gunter Club level offers discerning guests an extra measure of comfort and service with upgraded rooms exclusively on privately keyed 11th and 12th floors of the hotel, including a private executive lounge. The Club Room offers exceptional value for business and leisure travelers with a comfortable Executive Lounge staffed by a dedicated concierge. Now located on the 2nd floor with convenient access to the meeting space, lobby, dining options, swimming pool and 24-hour fitness center, it offers the guest a quiet environment in which to work or simply relax with a flat screen television, complimentary continental breakfast, light afternoon snacks, beverages, and high-speed internet access. With a great view of the hustle and bustle of downtown San Antonio, the Club also has a private executive meeting room, extensive seating and a pool table for entertainment.

Finally, outside the hotel, visitors now notice a softer look of with extensive landscaping over the parking structure. New exterior lighting, landscaping and new signage were also added as part the renovation.
