Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort Completes Multi-Million Dollar Expansion
TUCSON, AZ. March 3, 2016 - Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort, a historic Tucson landmark frequented by locals and visitors from around the world, has completed a multi-million dollar expansion. This luxury boutique resort, also lauded for its award-winning restaurant The Grill, has completed the addition of 32 guestrooms, including two two-bedroom suites. The rooms are located on the north side of the property's 34 acres, bringing the total guest room count to 59. The new rooms are identified as the Catalina rooms because of their stunning views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Hacienda Del Sol's local owners collaborated with Tucson's Eglin + Bresler Architects and W.E. O'Neil on the expansion which began late 2014.
Introducing the Catalina Rooms
The luxurious new Catalina rooms and suites were designed to reflect the iconic Santa Fe style construction of the existing historic structures. The six new and harmoniously individual buildings that house the rooms emanate a peaceful village feel with landscaped walking paths that lead guests to the Terraza Garden Patio, historic courtyard, and new negative edge swimming pool. Each building houses a different number of rooms and is adorned with hand-painted Mexican-tile murals, one-of-a-kind metal sculptures and over 4,000 tons of recycled Coronado brown stone.
The new Catalina rooms and suites rival the beauty and uniqueness of the 27 existing historic rooms. Each has a hand-painted border around the ceiling, Talavera tile, and custom-made wood furniture handcrafted in Mexico. Light fixtures, headboards, wrought iron drapery rods, wood floors and vibrant fabrics adorning the rooms embody the spirit of the Southwest. Walls are painted in rich earth tones with hints of desert sage, sunset melon and periwinkle to complement the Tucson sky. Every room has a patio with a spectacular view of the mountains or cityscape; most have both views and six have private, outdoor showers. The two Catalina suites are double the standard room size and include a conference sized dining table with conferencing capabilities for smaller board meetings or for those guests who wish to have a parlor.
The Spa at Hacienda Del Sol
It can be said that the expansion created 32 new spa rooms as each of the new Catalina rooms is designed to accommodate in-room spa experiences including massages and body treatments. Six of the ground-level Catalina rooms have outdoor showers - perfect for a refreshing rinse after a treatment. The in-room spa treatments allow guests to absorb and enjoy the transformative effect of their spa experience in the luxurious privacy of their own space. For guests and visitors seeking an out-of-room indulgence, our calming Spa Studio has been beautifully reappointed and is conveniently located near the courtyard gardens. Hacienda Del Sol Spa's certified spa professionals incorporate only Éminence Organic Skin Care of Hungary products during each sublime spa experience.
New Function Space
The historic Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort has long been a sought after locale for meetings, intimate conventions, weddings, family reunions and other small- to medium-sized gatherings and celebrations. The recently completed expansion created new event space and enhanced existing venues incorporating the Resort's spectacular views and adornments.
On the Southern edge of the property, the Casa Luna Ballroom comfortably seats up to 260 guests and boasts a spacious patio with stunning city views. Inside, the ballroom features gorgeously integrated Hacienda design elements that include 15-foot ceilings; custom and stylish wall sconces, chandeliers, drapes, room accents, and mirrors; polished concrete pre-function floors; and Talavera tile in the new restrooms. As functional as it is beautiful, Casa Luna Ballroom offers divisible space; double 11' screens; state-of-the-art AV with High Definition (HDMI); accent lighting with various controls; theatre lights; a dedicated kitchen; new furniture and dance floor; dual entrances (outside and hotel); a cloakroom; and discrete vendor access.
At Hacienda Del Sol's northern edge, the new negative-edge Catalina Pool area provides access to the most coveted views of Tucson's Santa Catalina Mountains for up to 100 guests. With a dedicated bar and close proximity to the main kitchen and guest rooms, this space is ideal for intimate gatherings, weddings, and photo opportunities. The jaw-dropping sunrise and sunset backdrops are always complimentary!

History of Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort
In 1929, John and Helen Murphey created Hacienda del Sol, a desert retreat and “home away from home” ranch school for girls. The prestigious school's roster boasted some of the country's most elite families: Vanderbilt, Pillsbury and Westinghouse, to name a few. In 1948, Hacienda del Sol was converted into a guest ranch that immediately attracted the Silver Screen's most notable stars, among them John Wayne and Clark Gable. Legend has it that Hacienda's Casita Grande was the favorite hideaway of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. Professional baseball players Lou Boudreau, Hank Greenberg and well known golfers, Sam Snead, Horton Smith, John Bulla and Don January enjoyed the ranch in the 1940's. In 1995, Hacienda del Sol was purchased by a group of local investors and became the Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort.
Today, the story continues, with simple pleasures, subtle beauty and charming hospitality at this classic Arizona resort - lovingly renovated to preserve its historic roots and expanded to meet the needs of local customers and world travelers who long for a genuine and luxurious Tucson experience. “We want people to enjoy the sense of place here,” said Tom Firth, managing partner. “My partners and I want nothing more than to make guests who visit feel they are pampered and welcomed - just as if they have come to our home.”
