Highway West Vacations Expands Footprint in Santa Barbara County Wine Country With Opening of Hotel Hygge in Buellton

USA, Buellton, California. September 22, 2022

Highway West Vacations, a collection of 15 glamping, camping and boutique hotel accommodations throughout the United States, announces the debut of Hotel Hygge (pronounced hoo-guh), a charming 23-room property in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. Located in Buellton, Calif., the opening of the hotel marks an exciting expansion for Highway West Vacations, now offering five properties in the region.

"We're thrilled to welcome Hotel Hygge to Buellton, a town with tremendous history that plays a quintessential role in the greater Santa Ynez Valley experience," said Jacque Raffaele, vice president at Highway West Vacations. "Situated between two of the country's top markets, Los Angeles and San Francisco, the destination's popularity has continued to rise as one of California's most sought-after wine regions. With deep knowledge of the Santa Ynez Valley, we're excited to bring new energy to Buellton with Hotel Hygge, offering a Scandinavian take on the modern traveler and outdoor enthusiasts' end-of-day retreat."

As the hotel's name reflects, ‘hygge' is regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture and refers to the mood of coziness and comfortability with feelings of wellness and contentment. Designed with this in mind, Hotel Hygge's Scandinavian-style design is reflected in the airy, light-filled spaces, and functional, minimalist aesthetic. The spacious guest rooms embody a simple, calming presence, complete with neutral color palettes, light wood accents and touches of monochromatic, geometric patterns.

Each room is equipped with a mini-fridge, Nespresso coffee maker, 43-inch flat-screen TV, full bath featuring Malin and Goetz amenities and dedicated workspace with complimentary WiFi, allowing guests the ability to work from anywhere. Among outdoor seating areas, outdoor amenities include fire pits, bocce ball and cornhole to unwind at the end of the day. To further enhance the experience, guests are invited to use the pool, hot tub, fitness center and other amenities at sister property Sideways Inn, a short stroll from Hotel Hygge.

In line with the latest travel standards, Hotel Hygge is designed and managed to deliver responsible guest experiences, with seamless arrivals and convenient, hassle-free service options via an invisible guest service model. This hands-off approach to hospitality enhances the safety and security of guests while still providing all the luxuries and personalized touches guests seek from a traditional hotel experience.

"Despite being known as a wine region, the Santa Ynez Valley is home to so much more, from the elevated culinary and beer scene to ample access to nature and an abundance of outdoor adventures," said Charity Baxter, director of operations at Highway West Vacations. "Now, the region is regarded as an ideal destination for families, friends traveling together and couples, offering guests a unique, differentiated experience every time they visit."

Located off the 101 Highway just 15 minutes from the California coast, Hotel Hygge is in close proximity to numerous tasting rooms, museums and breweries. Buellton is the ideal launching point for dining at award-winning restaurants, exploring downtown Solvang, and unlimited outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, horseback riding, glider rides and more.

The opening of Hotel Hygge marks an exciting time of expansion for Highway West Vacations' footprint in central California, following the debut of Flying Flags Avila Beach - an RV resort and campground in Port San Luis, Calif. - in December 2021. The brand's regional portfolio also includes two additional properties in Buellton - the flagship Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground, which features a collection of glamping tents, vintage airstreams, trailers, Jupes and themed cabins and neighboring Sideways Inn & Lounge, located just off the 101 - among two new hotels in Solvang that debuted in Summer 2020, Vinland Hotel + Lounge and The Winston, both bringing a new energy to the charming Danish village while providing a perfect launching pad to enjoy all the culture, wine, cuisine and activities this region has to offer.

Hotel Revenue Management: Every Square Foot Matters

Traditionally, hotels have employed a room-centric revenue model. The primary focus was on pricing strategies that could generate the most revenue from the sale of rooms. However, the pandemic has forced hoteliers to look beyond room revenue exclusively, and to maximize all available revenue streams. How is this accomplished? By re-imagining the use and function of every square foot of a hotel property, and how revenue is generated from it. For example, some hotels are rethinking their spaces for different uses - offering rooms for private day meetings, or offering suites for private dinners. Other hotels with meeting spaces are moving beyond daytime conferences and events, and figuring out how to book those spaces in the evenings, on holidays and weekends, for such things as exhibitions, workshops, rehearsals and pop-ups. Still other hotels are leasing work spaces or parking spaces to businesses in their local market. The October issue of the Hotel Business Review will report on how some leading hotels are re-inventing their revenue management strategies.
