JW Marriott Dallas Arts District Appoints Jonah Friedmann as Executive Chef

USA, Dallas, Texas. March 17, 2023

JW Marriott Dallas Arts District, scheduled to open in spring of 2023, has announced that Jonah Friedmann has been appointed Executive Chef for the hotel's three food and beverage outlets. The luxury hotel's three food venues that Friedmann will oversee include Margaret's, a three-meal farm-to-table restaurant featuring an open kitchen and 30-seat bar; Vincent's, an outdoor lounge on the hotel's 11th floor with gorgeous views of the surrounding Dallas Arts District; and 800 North, a coffee-to-cocktails concept located in the lobby on the street level of North Harwood Street.

Friedmann is a Chicago-born chef with a passion for seasonality and locality, using inspiration from travels and influential personal moments to develop his eclectic culinary tastes. He has held positions at hotels across the United States ranging from boutiques to 1,700-room hotels. Friedmann was featured on NBC's ‘Texas Today' and was named the "Rising Star Chef" at the 2022 CultureMap Dallas Tastemaker Awards.

"I'm excited to make the transition to Margaret's and bring my farm-to-table style to a new venue," Friedmann said of his appointment. "Working with the JW Marriott brand and its commitment to whole body wellness aligns with my style as a chef and I can't wait to get started, working with an array of fresh foods and the spectacular and soothing environment of the hotel."

Chef Friedmann brings over a decade of experience to the first JW Marriott hotel in Dallas, having trained at the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales.

"My vision for Margaret's menu includes modern takes on Texas favorites with a focus on experience and seasonal ingredients that make Texas cuisine unique," Friedmann said. "We want to impress every guest with dishes that are visually compelling, nourishing, and offer tastes to remember."

Chef Friedmann will also oversee the development of menus for banquet and catering services offered in the hotel's 10 meeting rooms, offering a total of 22,200+ square feet of flexible event space. These menus will offer customized options for small to large catering events and meet all dietary restrictions that guests and event planners may require.

The 23-floor, 267-room JW Marriott Dallas Arts District will feature meeting and conference areas, ballrooms, state-of-the-art fitness center, and a show-stopping mid-air pool and deck with 40-foot ceilings, cabanas, and outdoor event space offering prime views of the downtown area and beyond. The hotel is located in the United States' largest contiguous Arts District, near many of Dallas' best museums and fine arts performance venues.

Hotel Spa: Reconnecting With Nature

Hotel spas have never been so popular. The global wellness market is estimated to be in excess of $1.5 trillion with an annual growth rate of 5 to 10 percent. Consequently, spas are continually developing new programs, products, tools, and environments to meet the needs of guests who are seeking total body health and wellness. One trend that spas are embracing is a multiplicity of ways to reconnect with nature. Spas are moving beyond the “garden” model and going deeper into the countryside and forest, providing immersion in a wilder natural setting. Wild swimming, forest bathing, foraging, outdoor massage, and hiking trails are concepts that are being designed into the spa journey. Some hotels have built individual cabins deep in the forest for sauna, bathing and massage treatments, and others are offering bedroom suites which are located in cabins or tree houses away from the main hotel. The July issue of the Hotel Business Review will report on these and other developments, and how some hotel spas are integrating them into their operations.
