Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk Welcomes Ryan Fender as General Manager
Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk, a luxury hotel located on San Antonio's famous River Walk, announces Ryan Fender as General Manager. In his new position, Fender will oversee all aspects of the 1,003-room downtown hotel while leading its team into an exciting new era for the property as it completes a $9 million renovation to its lobby, restaurants, and public spaces.
"I am thrilled to join the incredible team at Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk, and to be a part of such a vibrant and growing city filled with so much history and culture," said Ryan Fender, General Manager. "I am committed to immersing myself into the hotel, city and regional tourism sector to be able to best support my new team and community the best I can. I am eager to continue building the hotel's position as the convention gateway for San Antonio and strengthening our reputation as an upscale and well-regarded place to stay and work."
Originally from the United Kingdom, Fender had an early interest in following in his father's footsteps who was also a General Manager. Based on the advice from his father, Fender began working in commercial kitchens and various restaurant serving positions when he was 15 years old to ensure hospitality was something he truly enjoyed. He quickly realized his passion and talents in the industry and applied to the Hotel School at Hague in the Netherlands.
Following graduation, Fender moved to the United States where he began his Hyatt career as a Corporate Management Trainee at Grand Hyatt DFW. He spent four years in Dallas before moving to New York City where he worked as a Front Office Manager at Grand Hyatt New York and opening Director of Rooms for Hyatt Times Square. He then transferred to Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in California before accepting a role in Chicago as Hyatt Corporate's Director of Rooms for all luxury and lifestyle brands in the Americas. In his corporate position, Fender was a pivotal part of the opening teams for several hotels including Park Hyatt Saint Kitts, Andaz Mayakoba, and Hyatt Centric properties in Lima, Santiago, Guatemala, and many other destinations.
Fender then progressed his career holding General Manager positions at Alila Ventana Big Sur in California, as well as Hotel 50 Bowery and Andaz 5th Avenue in New York City, before accepting this new position at Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk.
Ryan Fender joins Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk as it embarks on a $9 million enhancement project to transform the hotel's lobby and public spaces. Through the renovation, the hotel will also debut brand-new dining concepts including elevated Italian cuisine at Moda Fare, exclusive signature cocktails at Tejas Lounge, and premium coffee selections at Spoonful provisions. The renovation is expected to be completed in early spring 2025.
