OCTOBER 4, 2007. Sun International Resorts and Hotels has finished filling the second largest man-made saltwater swimming lagoon in the world at its new Port Ghalib resort on Egypt's Red Sea coast. The lagoon covers a surface area of 5.28 square miles. The dimensions are approximately 317 x 109 yards with a water capacity of 2.5 million gallons.

Set to open mid-November 2007, the Port Ghalib resort is a private world of luxury and comfort for sun seekers, adventurers and jetsetters. It will be an integrated community of distinction, activity and variety, setting it apart from any other resort community in the Red Sea.

Surrounded by beach sand, exotic palms, indigenous vegetation and scenic ethno-botanical gardens, the lagoon at Port Ghalib forms the central feature of the resort complex around which the 5-star deluxe The Palace at Port Ghalib and the 5-star Sahara Sun Sands and Sahara Sun Oasis hotels are being constructed. The lagoon offers sun splashed leisure, guests the opportunity to relax on chaise lounges, or beneath brightly hued umbrellas while sipping on cocktails and chilled hibiscus tea.

Among the other attractions at Sun International's integrated Port Ghalib project are a nearly mile long private beach with an offshore coral wall, a bustling Corniche with promenades, shops, boutiques, restaurants, bistro's and caf'es, as well as galleries and entertainment for all ages. It will offer extensive marine, sports and leisure facilities, luxurious and exclusive hotels, a serene health spa and a state-of-the-art International Convention Centre. Port Ghalib's Old Port area also includes 480 prime residential units.

Philip Georgas, divisional director of Sun International Resorts, stated that from inception to creation, Port Ghalib will be a world-class premium travel destination. "The pristine natural environment will be enhanced through outstandingly conceived developments including the finest hotels, a man-made lagoon, superior entertainment, leisure and sport facilities in addition to luxurious residential units," he said in conclusion.
