Andrew Gajary the New GM at InterContinental in Toronto

TORONTO, Canada, February 24, 2009 - The InterContinental Toronto Yorkville (www.toronto.intercontinental.com) is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Gajary as the new general manager for the 208-guest room property located in the vibrant heart of downtown Toronto.

Prior to joining the InterContinental Toronto Yorkville, Gajary served as the Hotel Manager at the InterContinental Chicago, the largest and most profitable InterContinental Hotel in North America, and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him to the job. He is a second-generation hotelier and a seasoned hospitality professional with over thirty-two years in the industry. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he received a B.S. in Business Management and did some graduate studies.

His hospitality career was interrupted by a three-year term in the United States Marine Corps during which time he attended the renowned Defence Language Institute. Following this, Gajary embarked on what was to become an illustrious career in the hospitality sector. He has worked for hotels around the world in various capacities, starting at the Holiday Inn Bethesda in 1977, prior to his military service. He later joined the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Rockville, Maryland in 1984, and then enjoyed a twelve-year tenure with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts in Washington D.C. between 1985 and 1997, leaving as a senior sales manager to join the InterContinental family of hotels.

After leaving the Willard InterContinental Washington in May 1999, Gajary, who is of Hungarian decent and fluent in both Hungarian and German, headed overseas to take on the post of director of sales and marketing, and acting regional director of sales and marketing for Central and Eastern Europe, at the Hotel InterContinental Budapest. Upon his return to the United States in April 2001, Gajary joined InterContinental Hotels Cleveland as the Hotel Manager. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing all operational areas of three properties attached to the world renowned Cleveland Clinic; the InterContinental Cleveland, the InterContinental Suites Cleveland and the InterContinental Clinic Guesthouse. In 2006, he moved on to manage the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, the 422-room, crown jewel flagship hotel in the InterContinental Hotels Group.

Gajary has been recognized for his exceptional work over the years, having been the recipient of numerous awards. Married with two sons, Gajary is happy to now call Toronto home and is committed to continuing the tradition of excellence in hospitality at the InterContinental Toronto Yorkville.
