LONDON, UK, December 15, 2005. John Stauss, Regional Vice President & General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel London has won the prestigious Hotelier of the Year Award for 2005.
In a ceremony at Gleneagles in Scotland last week, Mr Stauss was presented the award by Mark Lewis, Editor of Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine. The award recognises outstanding hoteliers who not only have a fine attention to detail and a personal touch with their guests, but are also dedicated to the industry.
Albert Hampson, Business Manager for AA Hotel Services and one of the judges said, "John Stauss fully deserves this industry recognition as Hotelier of the Year for 2005 for the professionalism, dedication and high standards he sets as a manager working at the very highest international level within the Hospitality industry. A quiet, unassuming personality, he applies as much effort to ensuring the welfare and training of his staff as he does to ensuring the very best quality of service to his customers."
John Stauss was appointed General Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel London in October 1994, having previously been the General Manager of the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis. Two years later, he became a Regional Vice-President, and today his responsibilities include overseeing hotel operations for the three Four Seasons hotels in the United Kingdom.
American-born, Mr Stauss has been with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for nearly 25 years. He joined the group in 1982 as Resident Manager of what was then the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. In 1985, he became pre-opening Hotel Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Newport Beach. He subsequently moved to Nevis in 1988 to open the new Four Seasons Resort there, quickly recognised as the most successful resort of its type in the Caribbean.
John Stauss studied at OregonState University and later graduated with honours from the 'Ecole H^oteli'ere de Lausanne in 1976. Before joining the Four Seasons group, he worked for Hyatt Hotels and has also had postings in Mustique and St. Lucia.
"It is a huge honour to be chosen for this prestigious award," says John Stauss. "I believe it is also a great reflection on all our employees at Four Seasons Hotel London. Running a hotel is a team effort, and I have the good fortune to be surrounded by a dedicated and talented group of people."
