. October 14, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC, February 8, 2006. Where can you climb a rock wall, learn to scuba dive, soar across a large hall on a zip line, walk in a Snow Shoe Park and plan your next spectacular vacation all in one day? The answer is Washington, DC when the Adventures in Travel Expo (ATE) breezes into the Washington Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday, February 11 & 12, 2006.

If you're thinking about an African safari, trekking the rainforest in Costa Rica, elephant tours in India or a golf tour in Ireland, Adventures in Travel Expo is the place to start. Whatever a traveler's passion - everything from skiing to snorkeling, mountain climbing to cruises - you will find it at the Adventures in Travel Expo - the world's largest travel and adventure expo. Hundreds of destinations, resorts and tour operators from around the globe will flood the convention center floor with every vacation option imaginable. It's the most unique gathering of its kind -- a true marketplace where you may plan and book your next holiday.

Not only will the show feature many interactive exhibits, but there will also be a host of eco-friendly exhibitors in the Rainforest Alliance GREEN program pavilion and elsewhere on the show floor, as well as the environmentally friendly bus from the National Outdoor Leadership Schools (NOLS), which runs on vegetable oil.

As with last year's show, the Expo will provide an opportunity for amateur and seasoned photographers to win a spectacular trip to beautiful Iceland by entering the "Wild Angle Photo Contest," sponsored by National Geographic ADVENTURE magazine. And, for those who are seeking to have an adventure a bit closer to home, Travel Industry Association sponsors the SeeAmerica pavilion, offering exciting trips across the U.S.. Or for an exotic experience, attendees will be treated to information from many destinations, hotels and resorts throughout the Caribbean in the Caribbean Village, sponsored by the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

"This is our invitation to Washington, DC area residents to experience the world," says Jim Forberg, COO of Unicomm, producer of the Expo. "The Adventures in Travel Expo is a travel marketplace of excellence where ultimate travel and lifestyle adventures converge. This is the place for those who want more from travel than sitting on a pretty beach. It is for those who want to experience a destination from a physical, cultural and spiritual standpoint and return with memories that last a lifetime."

The Adventures in Travel Expo will feature a full line-up of exciting activities such as a gigantic rock climbing wall, a heated scuba pool where visitors can learn to dive, an aerial zip line, kayak demonstrations, Global Beats Stage and an appearance by "Survivor" celebrity Burton Roberts, who is launching his new travel company, Reality Trips. Both Saturday and Sunday will also offer an exciting line-up of seminars including those presented by National Geographic ADVENTURE editors and photographers.

The Expo hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 11 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th. Tickets are $15 for those over age 16; children 16 and under are free.

Exhibitors to the Washington, DC Adventures in Travel Expo include Africa Travel Assn., Bahamas Tourism, Belize Lodge & Excursions, Costa Rica Experts, Deeper Africa, Guatemala Tourism, India Tourism, Morocco Tourism, Malaysia Airlines, St. Lucia Tourism Board, Tahiti Tourisme, Unique Jamaica, Wild China and many, many others. The New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau has been invited to exhibit free of charge following Hurricane Katrina and will be present at the show to discuss all available attractions and tourism opportunities to the destination.
