Remington Hotel is Number One in the World for Starwood for Crisis Leadership
OLANDO, FL, July 1, 2005. Remington Hotel Corporation, the premier service provider to the hospitality industry(TM), today announced that the Orlando Sheraton World Resort received the Global Crisis Leadership Award from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Remington-managed hotel was selected from over 650 Starwood-branded hotels worldwide.
The Orlando Sheraton World Resort received Starwood's Global Crisis Leadership Award for its crisis management expertise demonstrated during the unprecedented summer of 2004 when the Orlando area was hit with three hurricanes within six weeks. The entire staff of the Orlando Sheraton World Resort activated its crisis management role to facilitate service to existing guests, prepare for those soon to arrive due to the storm activity and support the emergency crews. Despite personal losses among many team members, the Orlando Sheraton World Resort provided entertainment for guests, including bingo, card games and family-oriented movies shown in its ballroom. Housekeeping services were provided daily for the guests, and the Orlando Sheraton World Resort's restaurants were among the few open in the area providing food and service to guests and to other area hotels and families.
Mark Sharkey, Chief Operating Officer of Remington, stated, "Following up on our award from Starwood for top crisis leadership in North America earlier this year, we are very pleased to be recognized as the top hotel in the entire Starwood family of over 650 hotels in this important category. The Orlando Sheraton World Resort has established a reputation throughout the region as a first-class destination for business and leisure travelers, which has now been extended into Latin America and the rest of the world. As recently as April of this year, the Orlando Sheraton World Resort was recognized by Latin Trade as the 'Best Hotel in Orlando.' With the increased international exposure from these prestigious awards, we would expect a positive impact in bookings for international guests visiting the Orlando area. This recognition would not be possible without the incredible dedication and commitment of our associates to making a difference in their community in addition to guest satisfaction."
