Mandarin Oriental Miami Honors Oriental Heritage
Contemporary Chinese Art on Display from December 7 through December 10, 2006 during Art Basel Miami
MIAMI, FL, August 21, 2006. Guests of Mandarin Oriental, Miami have the opportunity to experience the work of emerging and prominent Chinese artists during an exhibition on view in the hotel's modern, atrium lobby from December 7 through December 10 during the prestigious Art Basel Miami.
Organized by art consultants Gina Rogak and Roberta Gonella, the Mandarin Oriental, Miami exhibition will feature original paintings that reflect ancient Chinese traditions as well as western influences. On view will be works by China's star artist Ai Weiwei, Shanghainese artist recognized for his humorous paintings Wang Xingwei, well-known Beijing artists Xie Nanxing and Li Songsong, photographer Weng Peijun, whose work contemplates issues of urbanization, among others.
The exhibition will showcase the diversity of styles and influences, wit and humor and the artistic sophistication that has been commanding the attention of international scholars, museums and art collectors and breaking records at the major auction houses.
