10 Reasons to Visit Jalousie Plantation This Summer
JUNE 19, 2009 - The Jalousie Plantation on the eastern Caribbean island of St Lucia is a perfect year-round destination but there are a host of reasons why it's a particularly great place to visit in the summer months...read on for our top ten!
-
The most obvious attraction is that the cost of airfares generally goes down from the end of March with many carriers running special deals. Direct flights operate from London with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, while American Airlines has direct flights from Miami and JFK, and Delta operates a direct flight from Atlanta. You can also fly directly from Toronto on Air Canada.
-
The cost of accommodation also goes down. For example, a beautiful luxury villa at Jalousie costs US$700 in mid-March, but drops to US$540 from May 1 to December 18 (excluding 8% tax and 10% service charge). Take advantage of our stress-reducing 30-30 summer saver which gives you 30% off accommodation rack rates and a 30% discount on all spa treatments.
-
There are a number of activities in the late spring/summer months including the famous Carnival which takes place July 20 and 21. Visitors can join a carnival band, dance down the streets of Castries and enjoy Calypso and Soca music competitions in the run up to the colourful street parade.
-
From March to August, guests can enjoy Turtle Watching as during these months the giant leatherback turtles heave their bodies up onto the beach at Grand Anse on the island's east coast to lay their eggs... this is something you won't see any other time of the year!
-
The seas surrounding the island are much calmer in the summer which makes sailing day trips far more enjoyable for the uninitiated. Jalousie organises a range of boat-based excursions, from sunset cruising to full day sailing adventures.
-
As the spring tradewinds diminish, so to do the ocean up-swells making underwater visibility crystal clear. The summer months are among the best for scuba diving and with a PADI dive centre right on the shores of the resort's white sand beach, The Jalousie Plantation is perfectly poised to make the most of these ideal conditions.
-
With school being out this is the perfect time for a family holiday. Jalousie has a great Children's Learning Centre and plenty of fun-filled family activities to keep every member entertained. Younger visitors can learn all about the nearby volcano and the underwater wonders of Anse des Pitons with a range of educational but entertaining crafts and excursions.
-
During the summer months, temperatures and humidity are higher, but you get beautiful clear skies and it's great for star gazers with less haze masking the night skies. Occasional sharp downpours cool the air and are generally followed by bright sunshine and blue skies.
-
All of the facilities at Jalousie, including the PADI Dive Centre, remain open year-round. It's a great time to climb the Gros Piton or to try out one of the all-natural treatments in the Rainforest Spa. The Sulphur Seduction, which involves a trip to the nearby sulphur springs, a liberal slathering in black volcanic mud, and a volcano-warmed shower in a natural waterfall, is a year-round favourite.
-
Occupancy levels tend to drop in August/ September which means the staff to guest ratio is higher and therefore more attractive to potential visitors. While we pride ourselves on providing a five star service year round, the summer months give us a greater opportunity to provide more personalised service with fewer guests but the same staffing levels.
