JULY 13, 2009 - The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Voltaggio as Chef de Cuisine of The Dining Room, the Michelin star-awarded restaurant at the famed Pasadena landmark hotel. Chef Voltaggio will join The Dining Room on Friday, July 10, 2009 following a year as Executive Chef of The Bazaar by Jos'e Andr'es at The SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. He is also a contestant on season six of Bravo's EMMY and James Beard Award-winning series, Top Chef.

Chef Voltaggio's celebrated style is described as new American cuisine using classic discipline and modern trends, and he delights in presenting "familiar" food in new, innovative ways. Chef Voltaggio will join The Dining Room this Friday and transition into his position, where he will initially observe how the kitchen works and establish a rapport with the culinary team. He plans to introduce a new menu in The Dining Room by early August.

With the new menu, Chef Voltaggio plans to utilize the bounty of seasonal produce that California offers while showcasing the best quality seafood, meats and artisan ingredients available both domestically and from around the globe. His philosophy is to primarily focus on ingredients and flavor profiles, complementing them with strong technique and precise execution. The Dining Room will feature Chef Voltaggio's new menu through the remainder of 2009 and will undergo a renovation and repositioning in early 2010.

"We are thrilled to have Michael Voltaggio as Chef de Cuisine of The Dining Room," said Martin P. Nicholson, Managing Director of The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa. "His passion for innovative cuisine will continue to make The Dining Room an exceptional culinary experience for guests to enjoy, and he is the perfect chef to inspire a new vision for the restaurant as it awaits an exciting renovation in 2010."

Prior to his position with The Bazaar, Voltaggio was Chef de Cuisine of Hemisphere at The Greenbrier in West Virginia and Executive Chef of Charlie Palmer's Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg, Calif. His many accolades include a Michelin star and a 3.5 star review in the San Francisco Chronicle for his cuisine at Charlie Palmer's Dry Creek Kitchen; a 4 Star review from the Los Angeles Times as Chef de Cuisine of The Bazaar; and noteworthy recognition from local and national media including The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, Food & Wine magazine, Gourmet and Travel + Leisure.

For the last two years in a row, The Dining Room at The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa has been awarded a coveted one-star rating from the Michelin guide. The honor follows The Dining Room's "Best Service" and extraordinary scores in the 2009 Zagat Los Angeles/Southern California Restaurants Guide along with numerous other accolades such as Gourmet magazine's "60 World's Best Hotel Dining Rooms," a 3 Star Rating by The Los Angeles Times, "50 Best Hotel Restaurants" by Food & Wine and California Homes Magazine's "#1 Hotel Restaurant."
