. August 04, 2009

AUGUST 4, 2009 - Glenn Carroll, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing for the Malta-based CHI Hotels and Resorts (CHI) took his seat as Vice President of the International Board of Directors of the Africa Travel Association (ATA) at the 34th International Conference held in Cairo, Egypt, May 17-21, 2009. ATA is the New York-based premier professional travel industry association promoting tourism to the Continent of Africa.

Carroll, who spoke on the Hotel Industry panel at the conference, said "I am very pleased to represent CHI on the ATA Board especially since CHI is on a major expansion track in Africa through its joint venture agreement to operate the Wyndham and Ramada Plaza brands in Africa, as well as managing its own Corinthia Hotels luxury brand."

He further noted that "The ATA congress in Cairo was a very timely one for CHI Hotels & Resorts coming on the eve of the opening of our first luxury property in Egypt, The Tiran Hotel." This newly opened luxurious four-star property is CHI's first in Egypt and, together with the five-star Corinthia Hotel currently under development, will, from next year, form the Corinthia Beach Resort Sharm el Sheikh. The property is owned by Mr. Abdulhafiz Ali Mansouri's Cyrene Tourism Investment Corporation of Egypt.

CHI Hotels & Resorts, already one of the fastest growing hospitality chains in the European and Mediterranean regions, is indeed expanding in Africa. On the African Continent, their properties include The Ramada Plaza Tunis in Tunisia and the five-star Corinthia Hotel Tripoli in Libya, while the Wyndham Port Lixus Resort in Morocco and the Corinthia Hotel Benghazi in Libya are currently under development. CHI is also looking at several other hotel management propositions on the African Continent.
