Hyatt Regency O'hare Features Thriving "Green" Program
Increased "Green Initiatives" are part of the hotel's efforts to improve environmental conservation.
November 11, 2009 - Dave Jacobs, General Manager of Hyatt Regency O'Hare, 9300 Bryn Mawr Avenue, has announced that the hotel has successfully gone “Green” with environmentally friendly initiatives, including extensive recycling, water and energy conservation programs. As host to many national and international guests, Hyatt Regency O'Hare, which recently received WasteWise certification from the Environmental Protection Agency, is constantly striving to set industry standards in responsible eco-friendly practices.
“Hyatt Regency O'Hare is committed to being an industry leader in “Going Green.” It is our duty to preserve natural resources and do our part to help with environmental conservation. We are dedicated to encouraging both our staff and guests to make thoughtful Earth-friendly choices on a daily basis,” said Dave Jacobs, General Manager of the hotel.
In an effort to conserve the Earth's fresh water and energy supply, Hyatt Regency O'Hare recently installed new aerators in bathroom sink faucets throughout the property as well as Speakman low flow shower heads into all guestrooms. This means that the hotel will have the potential to conserve 700,000 gallons of fresh water annually. Compact fluorescent bulbs, which use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs, are now in all guest rooms and the Conference Meeting Center. The new bulbs save over 2,601,754 kilo watts of energy per year. Hyatt Regency O'Hare commemorated its commitment to conserving energy by participating in Earth Hour in both 2008 and 2009, a worldwide effort to raise environmental awareness.
Hyatt Regency O'Hare now features a thriving recycling policy as part of its “Green” initiatives, which amounts to an overall 30,000 pounds of materials recycled per month. The hotel now has a single stream recycling compactor, which recycles 16,000 pounds monthly. 100% of the cardboard that is used at the hotel is recycled each day, resulting in over 14,000 pounds of cardboard recycled via bailer every month. Paper and plastic items are also no longer available in the employee cafeteria.
Additionally, housekeeping has taken Earth-friendly measures by adopting a new line of environmentally safe housekeeping products called Ecologic. Certified by Green Seal Inc., the entire line of Ecologic products are biodegradable, sold in recycled packaging, and free from chlorine, carcinogens, harmful vapors, and other toxins that could harm people or aquatic life. The hotel has also developed an eco-friendly linen program, encouraging guests to use towels more than once in order to save natural resources. The hotel's kitchen facilities have recently set new standards to reduce their use of natural gas as well. In an additional earth-friendly measure, all of the carpeting, old vinyl and furniture were recycled during the recent 1,100 guestroom renovation at Hyatt Regency O'Hare.
For both air purification and natural beauty, Hyatt Regency O'Hare is a botanically enhanced “Green” hotel with over 6,993 plants throughout the property. On each floor the open-air atrium is lined with lush plants, which help remove harmful pollutants from the air by acting as air filters.
