Charleston SC Voted Favorite City in the South

CHARLESTON, SC, January 5, 2007. Southern Living magazine's January edition features its Reader's Choice Awards, in which several honors go to the Charleston, SC area. In competition with other southern destinations, Charleston was once again named Favorite Southern City by readers of the widely popular magazine. Honors also included top tier billing for best shopping.

By mail and by fax, readers sent Southern Living their list of favorite places in the South. More than 18,000 readers cast their ballots in 24 different categories including hotels, inns, gardens, zoos, getaways, restaurants, seafood, and more. Destinations as well as individual businesses were recognized.

Also featured in the new issue is a special section on the 2006 Southern Living Cook-off that was held in Charleston at the Culinary Institute of Charleston and hosted by Food Network's Tyler Florence. The grand prize winners, Maureen "Mo" Tischue and Christina Katona, traveled all the way from Kent, Washington, to present their Sweet Potato Cinnamon Rolls. The creators of the delicious treat took home $100,000.

Southern Living magazine is published monthly and has a circulation of nearly 2.5 million. The magazine is designed to appeal to the tastes of today's Southerners.
