Family-Owned and Operated Properties Refurbish Guestrooms, Grounds, Meeting Space

. August 23, 2010

August 20, 2010 - What's new in California hospitality? Handlery Hotels has unveiled extensive, multi-million dollar renovations to its two California properties, the Handlery Union Square Hotel at 351 Geary Street in San Francisco, and the Handlery Hotel and Resort, at 950 Hotel Circle North in San Diego. Renovations at both properties have provided a refreshed and invigorated spirit to the European charm at the San Francisco hotel and a rejuvenated update to the family-friendly character at the San Diego resort. Updates include refurbished guestrooms and public spaces and the addition of a new fitness facility in San Francisco. The Handlery Union Square Hotel is among the premier properties in the West and is in one of San Francisco's most sought-after locations. The Handlery Hotel & Resort San Diego is a leading full-service, family-friendly resort near major San Diego attractions.

“We're proud of the fresh look our new designs have given the two hotels,” says Jon Handlery, Handlery Hotels President/General Manager and third-generation operating family member. “With the renovations and overall updates at both locations, we offer the amenities and comforts that today's traveler expects. We also continue to acknowledge our family-owned heritage and showcase the personalized customer service for which we have become known. We've always been proud of the memorable experience we provide our guests with each stay at our hotels. By offering the latest in features and furnishings, Handlery continues its leadership in West Coast hospitality.”

Handlery Hotels is one of the last remaining family-owned independent hoteliers in the West. The refurbishments of its two California properties further establish the Handlery as a trusted name in hospitality. The Handlery Union Square Hotel features 377 guestrooms, each updated with contemporary comforts and today's conveniences. Accommodations include the Historic Section, with bay windows and intricate detailing of traditional architectural charm, and also in the Premier Section, with larger rooms and a more metropolitan appeal. Most Premier rooms feature balconies with pool or city views. Rooms in both sections have been refurbished to provide such contemporary conveniences as 37-inch flat-panel TVs and luxury bedding - without departing from the European charm and historic atmosphere for which the hotel is known. The San Francisco property also boasts one of the only outdoor hotel swimming pools in the city.

The extensive improvements throughout the San Diego property include new custom furniture, plush high-end bedding, new carpeting and wall and window coverings in each of the 217 guestrooms. Marble-top desks with ergonomic desk chairs and 37-inch flat-panel TVs are also offered in every room. The resort's common areas and event space have new carpeting and wall coverings, as well as state-of-the-art presentation technology, elegant new artwork and tropical landscaping. Guests are also greeted by a fresh exterior look, with gorgeous new landscaping.

Family Owned and Operated
Handlery Hotels has become a trusted name in hospitality for more than eight decades. Since its founding more than a century ago, the Handlery Union Square Hotel has been owned and operated by just two families. Opened in 1908 as the Hotel Stewart, Harry Handlery purchased the property in 1948 and his son, Paul, built the adjacent Handlery Motor Inn on O'Farrell Street in 1964. Known as the Stewart/Handlery Motor Inn until 1987, the hotel that year completed a major refurbishment and debuted as the Handlery Union Square Hotel. The Handlery Union Square Hotel, along with its sister property, The Handlery Hotel & Resort in San Diego, is one of California's premier family-owned hotels. The Handlery Hotel's reputation for personalized service and features rivals the best in big-name hotels. The San Diego resort, which Harry built in 1956, was a unique trailblazer in resort-style hospitality. The renovations at the property have renewed that original vision. With the unveiling of multi-million dollar improvements at both properties, the Handlery Hotels story continues to evolve.
