Shelborne South Beach Pool Redesign Features Catwalk, Spiral Staircase, Cabanas and Sun Deck
Miami, FL - September 21, 2011 - South Beach's pool fashionistas can strut the new catwalk, sun bathe on the upper VIP sun deck, dive into the reflective infinity edge pool and lounge in the cabanas with private showers. The new pool, part of ADD Inc Miami's multi-million dollar renovation of the Shelborne South Beach, will make a splash this fall and is destined to be Miami's next hot hotel pool scene.
Designed by architect Jonathan Cardello of ADD Inc Miami, the Shelborne South Beach pool will feature innovative materials, textures, lighting and emotion that embrace the Miami Modern (MiMo) and Art Deco history with a modern interpretation.
A walkway with white exterior walls and ceilings covered in live lush vines, banquettes with colorful yellow and orange pillows and glass guardrails takes guests to the new infinity pool. An original 1940's diving board and a floating concrete spiral staircase with a luminescent bubble roof was inspired by the original Morris Lapidus structure. This staircase will now lead to the new sexy catwalk bridge with glass railings where guests can make a dramatic entrance to the upper sun deck, cool off in the communal arching shower and enjoy exclusive lounging. In keeping with the black and white, Naughty and Nice theme of the property, the pool area will boast black and white striped pavers with grass insets surrounded by towering palm trees. Guests that don't want to miss out on the action can stay in the townhouses or mezzanine lanai suite that overlook the pool.
Common with all the Miami beachfront hotels in the 1940's, the Shelborne will be the first modern oceanfront hotel to completely open the space between the pool and the beach. This creates unobstructed views supportive of Igor Polevitzky's original design, enabling beach-goers to grab a bite at the hotel's new beachside Lucy's Cantina Royale taqueria.
