Jean-Matthieu Beroujon to Manage Apple Tree Group Properties in Laos
November 8, 2011 - Jean-Matthieu Beroujon took charge of the Apple Tree Group's hospitality properties in Laos this month, replacing Francois Foulon as operations manager. The properties include Villa Maly, Kamu Lodge and the Nava Mekong.
From his base at Villa Maly in Luang Prabang, Beroujon will oversee management operations at all three properties. On a regular basis, he'll travel 35 kilometers up the Mekong River to Kamu Lodge and take in the Group's lunch and dinner cruise on the Nava Mekong. For Beroujon, a native of France, the appointment in Laos is his first in Asia and his first at the level of general management.
"Being here in Luang Prabang, and on the Mekong, is still a bit like being in a movie," said Beroujon. "Everywhere else I've worked, the locales have been familiar. But here, in Laos, getting up in the morning is like waking up in a place where there's always the possibility of adventure."
Prior to his appointment to Laos, Beroujon worked in revenue management at a small luxury resort on Bermuda. Previous posts include a management position at a boutique hotel on Wall Street in New York City and another post in the room division department of the largest resort in Guadeloupe.
He earned a degree in Hotel Management from Institut Vatel in France, as well as a Certificate in Hotel Revenue Management and a Certificate in Strategic Leadership for Hospitality Professionals from Cornell University.
Villa Maly is a 33-room boutique hotel that is anchored by a vintage colonial-era villa, once the home of a distinguished royal family. Kamu Lodge is a collection of 20 riverfront safari tents and thatched bungalows on the Mekong River, 35 kilometers upstream from Luang Prabang. The Nava Mekong is a traditional Lao longboat that offers daily lunch and dinner cruises from Luang Prabang.
Villa Maly, Kamu Lodge and Nava Mekong are owned and operated by the Apple Tree Group, a French-owned, Ho Chi Minh City-based company with interests in tourism and hospitality, real estate and construction and import and distribution all over Southeast Asia. Its other hospitality properties include La Residence Hotel & Spa in Hue, Emeraude Classic Cruises on Halong Bay and the Press Club in Hanoi.
