Martyn Standen Is Appointed GM of Oakwood Serviced Apartments in Beijing

Hotelier brings wealth of experience from previous stints with market-leading international hotels

November 9, 2012 - Oakwood Asia Pacific announces the appointment of Martyn Standen as General Manager of Oakwood Residence Beijing serviced apartments in China.

Standen, a British national, was most recently General Manager of the 688-room Sheraton Taipei and previous to this, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur. He also spent 15 years with Marriott International, opening JW Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments in Shanghai, the brand's flagship property in the country. During this time, he was appointed head of the Shanghai Marriott Business Council, responsible for planning and leading the growth opportunities within its “cluster” of hotels in the city.

Prior to this, was assigned to New World Renaissance Hotel in Makati, Philippines. He led its re-branding from New World to Renaissance and subsequently achieved the top spot in terms of occupancy amid a highly-competitive market scenario. His first stint as General Manager was at Amman Marriott Hotel in Jordan where he oversaw a full hotel renovation.

At JW Marriott Hotel, Pacific Place (Hong Kong), he was promoted to Resident Manager from Director of Food and Beverage. Previous to this, he had the same position at the 900-room Excelsior Hotel, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, the busiest hotel for food and beverage. He first joined Marriott as Director of Food and Beverage and Catering at Riyadh Marriott in Saudi Arabia.

Standen also had stints with Holiday Inn, Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa as Director of Food and Beverage. Prior to these, he worked in London at Portman Intercontinental Hotel and Howard Hotel and in the British Virgin Islands in various capacities at the Front Office.

At Oakwood Residence Beijing, Standen oversees the largest and one of the most successful Oakwood properties in Asia. It has more than 400 fully-furnished and fully-equipped serviced apartments in the Chaoyang district, close to the airport and the CBD, and within 10 minutes drive to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.
