BATON ROUGE, LA - December 3, 2012 - The Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel has announced the appointment of veteran hotelier, Robert Mercer as General Manager.

Mercer has over 30 years experience in the hospitality industry and has held General Manager positions at numerous distinguished AAA 4-Diamond hotels in the Southeastern United States. His many years of experience have been in a wide variety of hospitality settings including full service resorts, downtown and suburban hotels in excess of 400 rooms, and convention hotels in excess of 1000 rooms. Mercer has also served as Regional Vice President of Operations for Davidson Hotels and Resorts where he was responsible for the operations of 14 hotels that included, but was not limited to, both Marriott and Hilton branded hotels.

Most recently, as General Manager of the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North, Mercer oversaw the operation of the 372-room Westin located in the perimeter business area of greater Atlanta. Previously, he spent six years as General Manager of Hilton Memphis, during which time his hotel earned several accolades, including: Food & Beverage Team of the Year, Sales Team of the Year, Safety Award, Pyramid Hotel Winner, and Stork Hotel Winner.

Mercer has been involved in several civic and professional organizations throughout his career and personal life, including serving as a board member of Bay County Florida Chamber of Commerce, and a member of their Economic Development Council; Chairman of the Panama City/Bay County Airport Authority; Board Member of the SouthTrust Bank of NW Florida; and Board of Trustees Member of the HCA Gulf Coast Hospital.
