Aston Hotels & Resorts Announces New Hires

Michael Markarians has been named Aston's regional director of sales for corporate, government and group travel. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating sales efforts in those segments for Aston's 26 properties in Hawaii and the Continental U.S. He most recently served as vice president of group sales at Luxe Worldwide Hotels and prior to that was director of national sales for the Pacific Palms Resort in Los Angeles. He also held management positions in operations and food and beverage departments with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts and the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Markarians holds a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel and restaurant management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Kaniela Neves has been named the general manager of Aston Islander on the Beach in Kapaa, Kauai, where he oversees daily operations of the 198-room beachfront hotel. He most recently served as the general manager of the Sherwood Valley Rancheria Casino in Willits, Calif., where he managed 100 employees and oversaw customer service, marketing, floor operations, and security. He previously worked as the executive director of the Sherwood Valley Gaming Commission.

James Farquhar has been hired as rooms division manager at the 463-room Aston Kaanapali Shores beachfront condominium resort on Maui. In this role, he oversees all aspects of guest services, including the front office and housekeeping. He has two decades of hospitality experience and most recently served as hotel manager for the Best Western Plus Stevenson Manor and Christopher's Inn Calistoga, two boutique hotels in Napa Valley, Calif. Farquhar has also held management positions at hotels and resorts in Lake Tahoe and San Jose, Calif.
