Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys, Damaged from Hurricane Irma, Elects to Embark on Phased Renovation
DUCK KEY, FL. November 8, 2017 - Hawks Cay Resort today announced that it will launch a renovation that will enhance the overall look and feel of the 60-acre resort. The Resort, which is currently closed due to impact sustained from Hurricane Irma, will reopen in phases throughout 2018 with the grand reopening anticipated to take place during the summer of next year.
The Resort will welcome back guests with a soft opening in the second quarter of 2018. The grand reopening is expected to follow before the end of the summer.
“We want to thank our friends, fans and guests for their patience since Hurricane Irma,” said Sheldon Suga, VP managing director. “The Resort is structurally sound and the restoration team has been working around the clock to get us to a place where we can come out with a clear vision of the work that needs to be done. Although a renovation wasn't planned for this time, we're going to take this opportunity to create an even better version of Hawks Cay Resort that our guests can enjoy.”
The renovation will include a complete redesign of the main lobby and all 177 hotel guestrooms, plus the introduction of a new signature restaurant and fast-casual family-style eatery.
In addition to the redesign, the Resort has been assisting crew members with navigating through the recovery process and relocating to new positions. HEI Hotels & Resorts, which manages Hawks Cay Resort, has sister properties throughout the U.S. that have welcomed Resort associates to properties in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, as well as New Orleans, Austin, Atlanta, Nashville, Manchester in Vermont.
“As a proponent of business and employment in the Florida Keys, I applaud Hawks Cay Resort for its willingness to ensure that its employees found work elsewhere,” said Rep. Holly Raschein of the 120th District. “Hawks Cay is an important part of the Florida Keys tourism product. We anticipate their reopening to once again have an important and positive impact on the community.”
