Terranea Resort Shares Leisure and Group Luxury Travel and Event Insights

Southern California’s Premier Oceanfront Resort Redefines Connectivity, Wellness, and Unparalleled Experiences

USA, Rancho Palos Verdes, California. August 30, 2021

Terranea Resort continues to evolve and redefine its leisure, group, and wedding offerings within the luxury segment to satisfy and exceed guest expectations. As Southern California's hidden gem on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, the destination resort has invested in the evolution of its enhanced standards of safety and well-being, advancements in technology, reimagined indoor and outdoor spaces, and experiences to promote integrated wellness, reconnection, and rediscovery.

"Our industry is resilient, adaptable, and poised to successfully accommodate the demand for evolved service and experiences," says Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Strategy Officer & Executive Vice President, Terranea Resort. "Guests are seeking integrated wellness, enhanced connectivity, and premium experiences and amenities with the return of leisure travel, weddings, and group gatherings. Clearly communicating these changes and expanded offerings across all touchpoints and points of travel inspiration such as TerraneaLife is paramount."

Terranea serves as a secluded oceanfront retreat brimming with breathless beauty, comfortable yet functional luxury, and endless inspiration. The resort takes advantage of its unparalleled views with expansive gathering spaces, premium accommodations, and coastal terraces with lush gardens and manicured lawns - all overlooking the Pacific Ocean with 270-degree views. The leisure, group, and wedding insights outlined below reflect the demand for 2021 into the first half of 2022 within the independent luxury resort segment.

Enhanced Connectivity

Leisure guests continue to enjoy multigenerational travel to reconnect, reunite, and commemorate missed milestones together. Many guests are opting for domestic travel over international, as well as combining celebratory trips for a variety of occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, and more. In some instances, missed honeymoons are now being combined with babymoons. For hybrid events, organizations are utilizing valuable new digital solutions to enhance connectivity for meetings participants and create a more engaging experience. It is also important to create a gathering space where attendees find value in person as well as remote participation, and that the meeting format is accessible and inclusive for all attendees. Small team gatherings and company retreats for brainstorming and team building are also very popular. Some companies are meeting their associates in person for the first time, as many were hired virtually and worked remotely during the pandemic.

Wellness Integration

Guests continue to demonstrate a high demand for wellness offerings across leisure, group, and wedding segments. In addition to spa treatments, yoga, fitness classes, and guided meditation, guests are also seeking food and beverage offerings that promote health and well-being, boost immune systems, and more. Terranea offers a variety of customizable wellness offerings for wedding and group integration. With plentiful options, it is easy to choose elements that best fit the individual's desired program. Options include personalizing welcome amenities with a unique aromatherapy digital app and blending bar, reducing the stress of travel with a relaxing chair massage at registration, beginning the day with morning activities and fitness classes, enlivening attendees with one-minute aromatherapy revivers during coffee breaks, and planning stretch breaks to increase the vitality within the meeting room. Guests may also take a break and rejuvenate with tranquil spa treatments at the award-winning spa, play a round at The Links at Terranea, a nine-hole par-3 golf course, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island, swim in one of four sparkling swimming pools, or get a breath of fresh air on one of the numerous hiking trails.

Unique Experiences

The 102-acre resort is the ideal location for providing ample space, as well as customization for safe and unique experiences, both personal and professional. The facilities and services create an environment that promotes the confidence of attendees and guests, by mitigating any areas of uncertainty. Guests may partake in a variety of outdoor activities, orchestrated by a member of the resort's Adventure Concierge, such as kayaking, whale watching, archery, fishing, painting, falconry, and more. All activities provide unique opportunities for guests and attendees to bond and reflect while exploring the resort's natural surroundings. Terranea works hand-in-hand with its vendors, engineers, and event professionals to create meeting and special event experiences that go above and beyond the industry standards to exceed guest expectations.

Premium Amenities

Guests who have not had a vacation in a while or experienced a delay in planned gatherings are looking for one-of-a-kind experiences, private activities, a longer length of stay, and premium views. Luxury accommodations that provide a more secluded experience such as the private villas, casitas, and adult-only bungalows allow guests to gather with ample space to reconnect and spread out. There is also significant demand for private offerings such as hot tubs, adventure activities, cabanas, chefs, and more. In addition, there has been an uptick with guests making reservations to stay while buying or selling their homes and during home renovations due to the current real estate market. For individual and group gatherings, guests are opting for individual charcuterie and cheese boards, individual portion servings, and mini servings instead of self-serve stations, tray passing, and multiple stations spread out across event space.

"Each of these segments not only comprises emerging and ongoing industry trends, they are critical elements and considered across the strategic planning, reimagined locations, enhanced services, and unparalleled environment for our guests and associates," says Fernandes. "Creating a TerraneaProud workplace culture, through training, careful attention to detail, and employee well-being, is the foundation for creating an environment of success."

Architecture & Design: Wellness is Key

Like every other facet of hotel operations, architecture and design firms are adapting their work to ensure the safety and well-being of both guests and staff. New ways to bring Wellness into hotel spaces are being explored and these solutions are taking on many forms. Hotel designs are incorporating more open floor plans, open air spaces, high ceilings, outdoor areas and operable walls into their spaces. Guests no longer want to be packed into tight areas. More "biophilic" elements are also being incorporated, offering guests the sense of being outdoors. Another trend is the reimagining of guest rooms to support remote work capabilities. Some hotels are converting empty guest rooms into office spaces, complete with effective lighting and suitable backgrounds for video conferencing. Dedicated Zoom Rooms are also becoming increasingly popular. The main goal is to provide guests with a positive experience in a space that feels safe and comfortable. These are some of the architecture and design subjects that will be covered in the November issue of the Hotel Business Review.
