The Driskill Appoints Markus Puereschitz as General Manager

USA, Austin, Texas. January 11, 2023

Historic Texas hotel, The Driskill, is pleased to announce the appointment of Markus Puereschitz as general manager.

In his new role, Puereschitz will manage day-to-day operations at the hotel where it has been a legendary destination in downtown Austin since 1886. His duties include overseeing the team that operates across The Driskill, which boasts 189 total luxurious guest rooms and renovated suites; 18,000 square feet of beautiful flexible meeting spaces for conferences, events and weddings; and the famous Driskill Bar and 1886 Cafe & Bakery.

In addition, Puereschitz will integrate luxury brand standards and service culture including boosting partnerships with local luxury retailers, improving operational productivity and delivering elegant, timeless and memorable guest experiences. He will also supervise the planned hotel renovations and F&B expansions, which are to be announced.

With more than 25 years leading teams across the globe at Hyatt's iconic hotels including Park Hyatt New York and Park Hyatt Chicago, Puereschitz brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to The Driskill. He launched his hospitality career in Vienna, Austria, and most recently, served as Director of Operations at Hyatt Regency Dallas. His Hyatt Hotels Corporation career dates back more than two decades with leadership positions at Park Hyatt New York, Park Hyatt Chicago, Grand Hyatt DFW, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Park Hyatt in Toronto and Hyatt Regency Dearborn. He has been recognized for his extensive knowledge of luxury hotel operations as well as enhancing customer service, and he played a vital role in several hotel openings and overseeing renovations. Puereschitz is also passionate about his work outside of the hotel with charitable organizations including Ronald McDonald House, Central Park Conservancy and Citymeals on Wheels.

"I am confident that my comprehensive experience in luxury travel will be an asset to the team," said Markus Puereschitz. "The Driskill has been a beloved icon in downtown Austin, and I'm thrilled to be the steward of preserving its historic charm and providing authentic Texas hospitality to our guests."

Originally imagined and built by cattle baron Colonel Jesse Driskill, the hotel was conceptualized to be a luxurious grand hotel and showpiece for the once frontier town of Austin, meant to rival the palaces of other big cities. Since then, the hotel has undergone several upgrades with the most recent being a renovation of 14 guest suites on the historic side of the hotel, led by award-winning architect Clayton Korte.
