Sheraton Waikiki Unveils $200m Room Renovation

USA, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. November 07, 2023

The Sheraton Waikiki is celebrating the completion of a multi-year, $200 million room renovation at its oceanfront resort along the famed Waikiki Beach. With breathtaking views of Diamond Head and Waikiki, Sheraton Waikiki sets the scene by the sea and is an ideal home base for travelers visiting Oahu.

RESORT TRANSFORMATION

The Sheraton Waikiki has undergone a major renovation of all 1,636 rooms and suites. The transformation project brought significant aesthetic and functional upgrades to guest rooms, suites, hallways and elevator landings on guest floors, function spaces, and retail experiences. Reconfiguring guest room amenities and providing a tailored, curated closet and refreshed tower provided much-needed organization and order, with washlets also added in each room. Nearly 80 percent of guest rooms and suites at the property offer immaculate ocean and Diamond Head views, and extending the functional space into the lanai (balcony) through püne'e (daybeds) and work tables further enhanced guests' access and connection to the breathtaking vistas. Sheraton Waikiki features more than 130 suites in its Suite Collection - everything from oversized rooms with three queen-sized beds at more than 600 square feet of space - all the way up to suites that can accommodate up to six people. The reconfigured Ohana Suite is the ultimate suite for families, featuring two bedrooms, two baths, two lanais (balconies), a comfortable living room, a dining table, and a pull-out sofa. The Ohana Suite accommodates six people.

"We're thrilled with the results of the renovations and are beyond excited for our guests to experience the beauty, comfort and aloha spirit that the Sheraton Waikiki offers," said Area General Manager and Managing Director Tom Calame.

SURF'S UP

Waikiki Beach Services at the Sheraton Waikiki offers a quiet oasis in the heart of this famous beach with rentals for umbrella sets, surfboards, stand up paddle boards and boogie boards. Surf and stand-up paddling lessons are also available daily at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. With ties to the Original Beach Boys and the Father of Modern Surfing, Duke Kahanamoku, Waikiki Beach Services aims to perpetuate the legacy and stewardship of these surfing icons.

Between surf sessions or for those who prefer staying on land, guests can enjoy the property's pool facilities, which feature two distinctive and unique pools. The first is the adult-only Edge Infinity Pool: North America's longest infinity pool; the other is the family-friendly Helumoa Playground family pool, which features a slide, a fountain and other water features. Collectively, Sheraton Waikiki's pools have been among the top two Best Hotel Pools in USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for the last five years.

COCKTAILS ON THE WATER

Adjacent to the award-winning Edge Infinity Pool is The Edge of Waikiki, recognized as one of America's best pool bars. Guests can now enjoy the tropical atmosphere with a revamped Surfbreak Cocktail menu, paying homage to iconic Waikiki surf locales. The 100M Freestyle, Queens, Canoes, Three's and Four's and Old Man's (Gregg's) drinks feature local spirits made in Hawai'i. The Edge of Waikiki has also unveiled a new lunch menu serving Hawaiian-infused American cuisine featuring fresh, locally grown products and healthy ingredients.

AWARD-WINNING COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Sheraton Waikiki is LEED Gold Certified and was the first hotel in Hawai'i to offer EV charging stations. The hotel features water refill stations, smart timer irrigation systems, indigenous plant species used for landscaping, and recycling all green waste. Hotel guest rooms have also been optimized for sustainability with smart thermostats, recycled paper products, LED lights, green cleaning chemicals, linen reuse options for guests, and more. The Sheraton Waikiki also works closely with event planners to ensure sustainability goals are met.

INDUSTRY HONORS AND ACCOLADES

In June 2023, the State of Hawai'i's Green Business Award has awarded The Sheraton Waikiki for the third time. A three-time winner, the Sheraton Waikiki won in 2010, 2016, and once again this year. For nearly 25 years, the Waikiki Collection properties, which includes the Sheraton Waikiki, have been trailblazing pioneers in sustainable practices with the implementation of various energy-efficient projects since the late 1990s. All three hotels are LEED certified with Sheraton Waikiki and The Royal Hawaiian Gold Certified, and Waikiki's oldest hotel, the 122-year-old Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, is LEED certified.

Sheraton Waikiki was recently named Best U.S. Hotel in the 2023 Skift Meetings Awards. Skift Meetings recognizes the industry's most respected suppliers, setting the standard for excellence in business events, with the shortlist having demonstrated an understanding of planner needs, consistent delivery of exceptional service, and extraordinary offerings that leave a lasting impression.
