Oskar Vignisson Appointed General Manager of Black Sand Hotel in Iceland
Óskar Vignisson has been appointed general manager of Black Sand Hotel, a soon-to-open boutique property on the shoreline of Iceland's iconic south coast. With over a decade of experience, Vignisson brings a distinct knowledge of the Icelandic hospitality landscape and the international guest to the newly built hotel, which is set to open this winter.
In his role, Vignisson will oversee all aspects of the hotel's daily operations, provide leadership to his dynamic executive team, foster seamless cross-department collaboration, and bring a deep commitment to creating an unforgettable guest experience. He will also be responsible for leading innovative strategies to maximize profitability, guest satisfaction, and market share.
Vignisson joins Black Sand Hotel from Exeter Hotel, a lifestyle property located in downtown Reykjavík, where he served as the general manager for three years. Prior to this role, he held positions across several departments—many of which were part of pre-opening and opening teams—within The Reykjavík EDITION, Reykjavík Konsúlat Hotel, Hotel Holt, Hótel Klaustur, and Le Méridien Barcelona. He was also the Project Manager and Chairman of Visit Vatnajökull, where he oversaw the marketing initiatives for the region in southeast Iceland. Vignisson currently serves on the board of the Greenleaf Center of Iceland, a non-profit focused on the understanding and practice of servant leadership.
Vignisson holds a bachelor's in hospitality management from César Ritz Colleges Switzerland and a master's in leadership management from Bifröst University in Iceland.
Opening this winter, Black Sand Hotel is set to redefine the Icelandic guest experience. The new hotel will feature 70 Scandinavian-inspired guestrooms and nine suites, ÓMUR, a seasonally driven Nordic restaurant, an intimate bar, and a forthcoming Icelandic spa.
