Refurbishment at Blue Horizons. Grenada, 85% Complete; Resort to Reopen on Schedule July 5, 2005
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada, June 6, 2005. The $1.5 million refurbishment project at Blue Horizons Garden Resort in Grenada is nearly 85 percent complete, and the property is scheduled to re-open on-time, July 5, 2005, as originally planned. Blue Horizons has been closed since September 2004 following damages sustained from Hurricane Ivan.
"We're extremely pleased with the refurbishment project, which included a complete repainting of the property, new furnishings and much more," said Arnold Hopkin, owner/manager of Blue Horizons Garden Resort. "The closure following the hurricane allowed us to revitalize our property and create a charming, informal getaway that remains affordable for adventure travelers, families, couples and leisure vacationers," he added.
All 32 cottages have been painted. Cottage exteriors now boast a cream silk exterior with herb green-colored roofs. Interiors feature a mellowed ivory with a guacamole shade in the bedroom to accentuate the new bed headboards. Window details are painted golden tan, and the handrails are eucalyptus green. This color scheme is featured throughout the entire property.
All bathrooms, including the floors, have been retiled, and new bathtubs and showers have been installed. In keeping with the resort's environmental focus, all 32 rooms have been equipped with energy-saving toilets and solar heaters instead of water heaters.
Minor interior work to be completed includes the installation of new bathroom fixtures, various accessories and other finishing touches.
New beds and furniture, including sofas, drapery, rugs, televisions, stoves, refrigerators and other miscellaneous items, will be placed in all 32 rooms within the next couple of weeks.
The pool bar, barbecue stand, and pool lounge have been completely repainted and renovated. The bar now features a porcelain tiled counter. New colonial French windows have been installed in the pool lounge. Furnishings for the lounge are almost in place.
The front office is completely renovated and repainted. Colonial French sliding doors are to be installed to replace the existing entry doors of plain glass. For added attraction and to further enhance the front of the property, a lily pond has been created using an eighteen century copper and a variety of local flora and fauna have been planted. (A copper is a large circular iron/metal container, between 40 - 80 inches in diameter. It was used on the sugar cane plantation primarily to boil the sugar cane juice which was the first stage of the production of sugar).
The refurbishment on La Belle Creole, the resort's top-class restaurant, will be completed within the next few weeks. Blue Horizons contracted Florida-based Kobi Karb Architecture and Interior Design, Inc. for the refurbishment project.
Blue Horizons is located four miles north of the airport and less than five miles from the capital city of St. George's.
