. March 30, 2009

MARCH 39, 2009 - The 900-acre, 600-room Grand Traverse Resort & Spa near Traverse City, Mich. is gearing up for the summer travel season and recently completed renovations and upgrades in several areas of the Resort. Here's a roundup of the recent work.

  • Sweetwater American Bistro: Renovation of this full-service family restaurant on the Lobby Level was completed in February. It included installation of new booths, plus new chairs, new carpet, new decor, and enclosed service areas, plus a brand new menu.

  • Indoor Water Playground: Conversion of the 15,000-square foot Indoor Water Playground pools to an eco-friendly mineral pool water system was completed in February. Ecolab's Pure Comfort Saline System is a natural alternative to standard pool chemicals, offering improved water quality to eliminate eye irritation, dry skin, and excessive chlorine odor. That means less stress on skin, bathing suits and the environment.

  • Spa Grand Traverse: Completed in February, Spa Grand Traverse was given a new look to reflect the natural surrounding of the Grand Traverse region. Physical modifications included creation of a Thai Massage Room and relocation of the hair styling and manicure areas. In addition, a new spa menu/brochure was introduced with many new services including Thai Bodywork Massage, Caribbean Therapy Body Treatment, updated Facials using Sonya Dakar and Aveda products, Eyelash Extension and Eyelash Perms, plus new treatment add-ons, and much more.

  • Northwoods Room & Manitou Room: Completed in December 2008, these new meeting rooms are located in two side-by-side former Gallery of Shops stores. The 1,300-square foot Northwoods Room in the former Northwoods Christmas store is a high-end boardroom for up to 20 persons. The 1,000-square foot Manitou Room in the former Michigan Seasons is ideal for casual business networking and contains comfortable seating and tables, along with a pool table, large screen TV with Wii console, and a built-in bar. The meeting rooms may be rented together or individually and offer unique settings compared to tradition meeting spaces.

  • Soon to Come - April is Wine Month in Michigan. Look for a new Wine Shop/Wine Bar that will be introduced during April in the Resort's Gallery of Shops.

Located along Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay, Grand Traverse Resort & Spa is one of the Midwest's finest year-round resorts. "Michigan's Premier Resort Experience" features 600 rooms, suites and condominiums, 85,000 square feet of meeting space, 54 holes of championship golf including The Bear, designed by Jack Nicklaus, The Wolverine - a Gary Player signature course, full-service spa, shopping gallery, a variety of restaurants and lounges and seasonal recreation.
