Loews Hotels' Robert Tisch Dies at 79
NEW YORK, NY, November 16, 2005. Preston Robert Tisch, who founded Loews Hotels with his brother Laurence, has died at age 79.
The Tisch brothers used their initial success in the hotel business to create Loews Corp., a major conglomerate that today ranks 127th on the Fortune 500.
Among Tisch's philanthropic endeavors, he endowed the hospitality, tourism and sports management school at New York University, which was renamed in his honor. Tisch also was known as the co-owner of the New York Giants football team.
Tisch's son Jonathan currently serves as chairman of Loews Hotels, which has a portfolio of 19 upper upscale properties mostly in the U.S.
