The Pruneyard's Tuscan Themed Lifestyle Continues to Revitaliza Campbell

Equity Office Commissions Local Muralist, Announces Pool, Landscape Plans, Welcomes Shangri-La

. October 14, 2008

SAN JOSE, CA, June 23, 2005. Plans were unveiled today for the next phase of renovations at The PruneYard, one of Silicon Valley's most celebrated outdoor dining, entertainment, hotel, and shopping destinations. This summer, the 171-room PruneYard Inn's pool and landscaping will undergo a major transformation, furthering the Mediterranean essence of the upscale boutique property located in Campbell.

Equity Office, owner of The PruneYard, also announced that a new restaurant has joined the merchant mix at The PruneYard Shopping Center. Shangri-La, a Bay Area favorite, opened its second Asian-influenced restaurant last month.

The PruneYard Inn is being transformed via a $2 million improvement project that is creating a Mediterranean oasis. Equity Office is focused on carrying the Tuscan theme throughout the exterior of the hotel property, and the pool and mural instillation is the last step in the multi-year efforts.

"The PruneYard is an original lifestyle center that continues to be one of the most popular destinations in the Silicon Valley," said Richard "Dick" Scott, Equity Office vice president of leasing in San Jose. "The mixed-use property is a perfect blend of outdoor shopping, dining, entertainment, and an upscale hotel that complements the requirements of business travelers, people working in the adjacent office buildings during the day, and Campbell's evening and weekend needs as a community gathering spot."

"The PruneYard Inn delivers guests a unique Tuscan-inspired retreat in the Valley that combines an impressive list of on-site and nearby amenities with impeccable service," said Patricia Morreale, general manager of The PruneYard Inn, which is managed by Larkspur Hospitality, a Corte Madera-based hotel company.

The centerpiece of the new changes is a poolside scenic mural created by Bay Area artist, Johann Douglas. The 18- by 30-foot mural titled "Landscape near Siena - Tuscany Province" will feature vineyards, rolling hills, picturesque flowers, and create an overall feeling of a classic Tuscany terrazzino. New pool tiling and flagstone decking mirrors the Mediterranean style and contributes to a refreshing outdoor patio plaza that also features wireless Internet access. The redesign is targeted toward creating a tranquil, yet sophisticated environment that delivers warm, inviting spaces for The PruneYard Inn guests.

Landscaping throughout the entire PruneYard property is also being enhanced with carpet roses, Italian cypress trees, and bright wild field flowers. A new vibrant color palate is being incorporated into the exterior landscape to complement the surrounding areas. These enhancements make The PruneYard Inn an ideal location for Silicon Valley corporations due to the ease of freeway access it affords business travelers. The property also is a perfect setting for weddings, parties or banquets because it offers 5,000 square feet of meeting rooms, including a picturesque 1,700-square-foot outdoor Tuscany courtyard.

An open house will be held in celebration of the mural completion and the most recent additions later this summer.

In addition to the aesthetic changes, The PruneYard Shopping Center welcomes Shangri-La to the lineup of gourmet food options at the center. Shangri-La, which means "a utopian paradise where everyone wants to go," is a fusion of Peking and Szechwan cuisine with American undertones that has been in the Bay Area for over 11 years. The other restaurant is located in Los Gatos.

This 2,250-square-foot, 95-seat family-owned location of Shangri-La offers a variety of tasty and original menu items such as firecracker prawns, Chinese chicken salad, dishes cooked at the table over an open flame, plus many other Chinese favorites. The ambiance of Shangri-La is anything but a typical Chinese restaurant. It is more like that of a family-style Italian bistro with red, brown, and moon shadow shades woven throughout the d'ecor to provide an intimate, but upscale environment. Another feature, not typically found in a Chinese restaurant, is Shangri-La's open kitchen, so patrons can see how proud the restaurant is in its kitchen staff, ingredients, and methods of preparation. Both indoor and patio dining are available, The restaurant is located next to Trudy's Brides at The PruneYard Shopping Center and can be reached at (408) 626-8100 for more information.
