A Total Eclipse of the Sun at Holiday Inn Male
CNNGo captures 2010's first Annular Solar Eclipse from the rooftop of Holiday Inn Male
Male, Maldives, January 14, 2010 - CNNGo fans will be treated to front row seats tomorrow - courtesy of the new Holiday Inn Male - for the first total Solar Eclipse of 2010.
One of only two solar eclipses occurring this year, the total eclipse will turn day into night for the tiny island nation of the Maldives and is the longest solar eclipse since 1992.
CNNGo, a website specialising in broadcasting local insights and global experiences, will provide exclusive live coverage of the eclipse from the Holiday Inn Male's rooftop, the capital's tallest building at 15 storeys, and Male's first international-class hotel.
The hotel, which opened its doors late last year, provides the perfect 'bird's eye view' setting for documenting this rare occasion. CNNGo's viewers will observe the gleaming Maldivian sun as it is slowly erased by the darkness of the moon, shrouding the bustling city in total darkness for 10 minutes 45 seconds.
Followers of the CNNGo website (http://www.cnngo.com/) will be able to access the live streaming of the famed eclipse for close to two hours this coming Friday 15 January from 10:45am Maldivian time, with the moon overlapping the sun at 12:25pm local Maldivian time (12:45pm to 2:25pm local Bangkok time, 1:45pm to 3:25pm in Hong Kong, 11:25am to 12:55pm in Mumbai, 1:45pm to 3:25pm in Shanghai, 1:45pm to 3:25pm in Singapore, 2:45pm to 4:20pm in Tokyo).
The eclipse, will be visible from a 300-km-wide track that transverses central Africa, the Indian Ocean and eastern Asia.
