Bill Rock New GM of Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort
November 18, 2010 - Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: MTN) today announced the appointment of Bill Rock as the new chief operating officer of Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort. Rock will assume responsibility for all mountain and village operations associated with Northstar-at-Tahoe and will report directly to Blaise Carrig, co-president of Vail Resorts' Mountain Division.
"Bill brings 14 years of experience in the mountain resort industry, including mountain operations, lodging, real estate development, association management, municipal services and commercial real estate. Bill has a deep understanding of how to drive both guest service and profitability in the mountain resort business, as well as how to develop strong community partnerships. Rock joins Vail Resorts from Intrawest's Snowshoe Mountain Resort in W.V., where he was president and chief operating officer since 2005. He also has simultaneously served as president of Intrawest Spain since 2009, overseeing operations of the Madrid SnowZone. At Snowshoe, Rock was responsible for significantly growing resort revenue, increasing guest satisfaction scores and developing strong community partnerships.
From 2003-3005, Rock was chief operating officer and general manager of Durango Mountain Resort in Colorado, where he grew resort revenue, introduced two new season pass products to increase ticket revenue and implemented new service standards that resulted in increased guest satisfaction scores. He held several leadership positions in lodging and golf operations, human resources and sales at Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont from 1998-2003. Rock began his career in the mountain resort industry at Bristol Mountain Resort in Canandaigua, N.Y., directing marketing and sales for the ski resort from 1996-1998. Rock was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1987-1990. He received his bachelor's degree from Clemson University in 1987.
Northstar is host to a new base area village featuring 35 unique shops and restaurants in more than 100,000 square feet of commercial retail space, a conference center, a 9,000-square-foot skating rink, on-site lodging, special events and more. A winter sports paradise, the mountain offers 19 lifts, 93 ski trails spread across 3,000 acres, snowmaking that covers 50 percent of the ski trails, seven terrain parks and snow sports including alpine and telemark skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tubing.
