Newport News, VA - January 27, 2011 - The Mumford Company represented an institutional client in the recent sale of the Plaza Hotel at Carowinds in Fort Mill, South Carolina to Shreeji Carowinds, LLC. The sellers are not active in the hotel business and acquired the property as part of a larger acquisition. The purchasers are multi unit hotel owners and operators in the Carolinas.
The 198 room, high-rise property will undergo significant renovations and affiliate with a national franchise. The hotel is well located on I-77 near the North and South Carolina border and is minutes from Charlotte, North Carolina. Other area demand generators include the Carowinds theme park, Winthrop University and several professional sports facilities.
